I am new to Lewes, and I need a dentist fairly urgently. I think I will need a back molar removed, possibly under anaesthetic, and I wonder if anyone in Lewes can do it, or do I have to go to Brighton?

The Victoria Hospital Lewes does emergency dentistry and they are very good. When I needed to register quickly the Mermaid practice were very helpful and professional. If you mean you would need to be fully sedated then I believe you would be referred to a practice in East Grinstead. Don't wait too long!

The Victoria Hospital should be your first stop for most ailments. Much better than sitting for hours in Brighton. The café does good food too.

Good luck finding a dentist with room for NHS patients. Mermaid used to - I think quite scandalously - make you wait several weeks until they'd see you as an NHS patient. It was, presumably, a way of nudging you to go private.

Thanks for all the advice. I am impressed that most of you seem to be dentally qualified. I will try the Victoria Hospital.

Mermaid in School Hill took me and my daughter on as NHS patients five weeks ago without a murmur and I had a molar removed under local anesthetic on my second visit a week later. I'm normally quite an anxious patient, but it was over very quickly and with no pain whatsoever.
I've found everybody there most helpful and obliging and would definitely recommend them.
