Very good day on saturday. Here's the total of the haul for the river clean up under Willeys Bridge on saturday in Lewes.
28 shopping trolleys
12 bikes
6 scooters
2 full size steel football 'goals'
14 traffic cones
6 scooters
1 skateboard
4 large road signs
several scaffolding poles
1 large beer Keg (ouch)
Plus loads of miscellaeneous debris
ALL from a 6, yes SIX METRE stretch of the river below a footbridge, in two hours, and that was it, the tide turned so we had to stop, and there is still plenty more down there. What is there in the rest of the river.
Tescos Say that their customers don't want coin key trolleys.
I will be meeting with LDC and Tesco, I would welcome some feedback from Residents and Tesco customers. how do you feel about installing coin key locks on trolleys?
Homebase already have them.

Well done everyone.
I wouldn't mind locking trolleys, as long as they go in a straight line.

That is just unbelievable. Last time I was home I was horrified at the amount of rubbish along the embankments. What is it with these people that are so mindless? I think you NEED to have the locking trolleys. Well done Mick for caring.

I have lost count of the amount of times I go to a line of trollys at Waitrose, pull, and it is stuck.
I do my shopping, come out,sit and wait for a bus on the wall and watch umpteen folk come along and tug at the same pile...And they go to another.
Waitrose and Tesco are going to have to seriously look at the looseness of their trolleys to make this work.

I have no problem with locking trolleys but feel that the attitude of drongos dumping stuff from Wileys bridge needs to be addressed first - will we end up requesting that bikes, steel goal posts, traffic cones, road signs etc are locked too?
Maybe Tesco's could contribute something towards education?!!! .......another good reason NOT to shop at Tesco's.

I dont like locking trolleys as I never have a pound coin on me when I go shopping. Morrisons in Seaford use locking trolleys. Last time I went there I had to take courage in both hands and asked the Blue Rinse Dragon that lives behind the customer help desk for the loan of a pound coin as I said I had a weeks shopping to do and I only had my Mastercard on me.
Fugg me... she look as if she'd just sucked a particularly bitter lemon.
Firstly she wanted to actually see my Mastercard. She even held it up to the light; I smiled at her and said I didn't think you were meant to see through them.
Eyes like bloody saucers.
She then wanted to know my full name and address.
I said to her, " Look, I only want the loan of a pound coin so I can do my shopping, If you feel as if I might do a runner with it then you're welcome to escort me out side and put the precious bloody coin in the trolley yourself.
I don't think this idea went down very well as her knuckles went white and she said she would have to call a manager.
I drove 5 minutes down the road to Sainsburys in Newhaven, free parking and proper trolleys.
I've never used the Morrisons store again.
Why is it that normal people are expected to turn introspective and change our behaviour patterns just to accommodate a handful of window lickers?
It sets a bad precedence and it aint the way it should be.
It aint my fault, It aint Tescos fault so stop the woolly thinking and confront the problem, eliminate the retard element.
Its what we pay taxes for.
Locking trolleys are a dumb idea invented by spineless people.

loathe and detest coin-op trolley releases - equally (if not MORESO) loathe and detest the arsehole mentality that makes people commit ANY act of vandalism not just that involving supermarket trolleys - BURN 'EM

Locking trolleys dont have to be operated by pound coins. Aldi give out free token type keys that fit on your key ring complete with their logo, Tesco already have them in other stores.
Yes we need to tackle vandalism, so by preventing trolleys from being left loose around the car park we diminish a sustantial part of their 'ammunition'. There is a system that works by a infra-red cordon around a perimeter which causes rhe wheels to lock-up.

again its the same old stuff, flymow, shopping trolleys, misc metal anything that people cant be bothered to dump legally, such a shame its so very pretty down there, I use the area everyday. its amazing just how far people are prepared to push a trolley and how many gates and styles they lift them over to just dump them in the river and brooks. If the brooks where cleared of rubbish and over growth of weed they would function better when the water level gets high. I understand that the enviroment agency wont clean them because it has a detrimental effect on the wild life! Will give Ian Stratton a ring, think this may be the same guy I need to talk to about the broken styles at this end of town.

I've a nice trolley token with my name on it, if anyone wants to borrow it, they'll have to come and get it. Got it for my last birthday when in Sussex and had to have it explained to me what the hell I needed it for. I love it, and keep it next to my passport, ready to use on my next visit.

Well, done Mick. I am gobsmacked at the amount you retrieved. Anything to stop supermarket trollies being used outside their premises is fine with me. In France the supermarkets are made to use coin deposits - and they check them regularly because no one wants to 'pay' a Euro and get one that only goes to the left. Meanwhile Tesco and Waitrose should be made to retrieve their trollies from the river and around the town. With a contraversial planning application in with the Council for expansion, Tesco might just pull a finger out and do that.
