Perhaps surprisingly, the Lewes store is not on the list of Homebases to be closed.
Poundland needs to be on a busy high st. Homebase is in completely the wrong place for one. B&Q might posibly be interested.

There will never be a low cost shop in lewes as there is no fast food chain. People think we’re to posh for that trash

It's a shame, as Homebase has a good range and the prices have become more competitive than they were, say, 15 years ago.

We have home and garden items made for us by craftsmen and the one who is remodelling our kitchen just now says the goods from Homebase aren't high enough quality. I believe we're increasingly typical of households here.

Homebase is a profit making store. If Homebase go it will be because all of homebase has gone. I think if they start bringing back the ‘home range’ such as kettles, cushions etc then they’ll have a better chance of survival

I think most of these large chain stores are finished.
Amazon can offer everything that they offer directly to your doorstep for half the price.
The only time I use one of the big chains like homebase, or argos is if I want something right now this instant.
And guess what. .. the large chain store tells me sorry but we don't have that item in stock. If you would care to come back tomorrow we can get it delivered from our central depot. Well in that case I might as well order it from amazon and select next day delivery matey and still pay only half of what argos will charge.
I don't support amazon or agree with its ways. Neither do I feel any sympathy wirh the large inefficient chains such as homebase or argos. Just comercial evolution in effect.

Mr Globe, I've stopped buying from Amazon long ago - the carraige charge is just way too high. I now look at Amazon for something I need, then go to the sellers site (not via Amazon), and order from there. Carraige charge is then vastly cheaper, and free in many cases.
Get out of the habit of using these American owned companies like Amazon & Ebay, and support UK based shops instead by buying direct from them! And don't get me started on that 'Wayfair' company!!

As someone has said on here the stores say not in stock so what choice do you have.. Amazons business model is superb and the annual membership in return for the next day service is great.
Someone mentioned b&q well screwfix is part of the same group.
Home base was great when it was part of the argos group but now we have screwfix I find myself using them less and less.
Chandlers supplies are another superb supplier and extremely helpful should you need DIY stuff

Thanks for the tip, Mario
You are correct. But I was not promoting amazon. I was pointing out that if the likes of argos and homebase can't keep up, then they deserve to go the same way as woolworths

I was I homebase today and the staff are allergic to serving on the tills. With the attitude they have in there, they deserve to lose their jobs. How can you work in retail and be so against serving customers?

Unless B&Q or Wickes want it, I can't see it staying open for long. Whenever I go in there something, they haven't got it, and I end going to B&Q in Newhaven.
And if I have to go to B&Q, Tesco lose out as well because I get my food shopping in Newhaven while I'm there.
Screwfix is good, but I don't like buying stuff I can't see.

Screwfix works just like argos, you can ask to see items.
No different from buying it elsewhere where you would open the box and have look it is a right to view the product before purchasing. The same as buying online if its not as described you can return for a full refund.

The developer with planning permission to build flat next to Tesco is supposed to be interested in the adjacent Homebase site.
