Just ignore them Forks. Bishop of Newick summed them up quite nicely. Just a small bunch of posuers aided by social inadequates and family members too afraid to speak out.. Their programme was was an interesting read!!
The Borough appreciate the support the other real societies (mostly the Cliffe, and obviously not Comical Sq Carnival Society) have shown us over this matter. Have a great 5th!!!

@boombastic, they have to keep harping on, it's a classic conjurers trick called distraction.

It is a documented scientific fact that the IQ of people belonging to a Bonfire society is 10.4 points below that of the general Lewes population.

Having read all the comments relating to bonfire societies recently, it deeply saddens me to see these comments. I am a member of Borough, Southover & Fletching and have many friends and family in the Phoenix, Waterloo, Commercial, South St & Cliffe. In the past I have been in the firing line of the bonfire underground bitching. Enough is enough just get on with it, bonfire night is just around the corner, focus on keeping the celebrations and its traditions going. Commerical have asked the Phoenix not to wear Zulu so respect them for it!! and just to note I have Zulu costumes all made by me not those who left. Good luck to everyone on the fifth hope you all have a safe and enjoyable night.

You've got to remember that there are literally hundreds of people who are in bonfire societies who don't take the inter-society rivalry further than a bit of gentle banter from time to time. A forum like this however will only show the opinions of one or two idiots, not the vast majority who are quite content to get on with enjoying Bonfire without all this silly sniping at other people.

I see all this childish and sectarian bickering was reported in the local paper recently. Hardly a good advert for Lewes or Bonfire in general.

What a load of cobblers. All this talk about the Pheonix just goes to show that they are something worth talking about. If they weren't you wouldn't bother but by talking about them, just makes us even more curious as to why you seem so intent BBS on ruining yet another year. Last years banners were opinions of some, not all and right or wrong. Everyone is allowed their own, whether you agree or not. And whats this I see, LYN1066, certainly not the real one thats for sure. Is that supposed to be a play on a name? So not funny or clever actually. The real one wouldn't stoop so low as to bother with this forum. And one BURD, who's been up to no good behind a wheel, should really watch were her mouth puts her. Now personally I'm going to watch from the sidelines and enjoy all thats on display, whether some like beer or not, or some like stripes or not. Grow up all of you before you ruin everything!

Oh dear, you all seem to have got it so wrong. LBBS member you obviously don't know the Bishop of Newick, or else you would realise that he, like other Societies can poke fun, without it being taken to heart. I do know the Bishop. Newick may have had a banner, No Beer, No Bangs, No Stripes, No Point but Newick said this in light-hearted banter, I know this for a fact. And I think you'll find, asked the Pheonix to walk there. Newick will also enjoy the walk between Pheonix and BBS, which will include some friendly banter I'm sure because they aren't malicious or intent on ruining the night. Most of them also know and socialise with each other outside of Bonfire. They too have their own opinions of the Pheonix but are more interested in everyone joining in and enjoying themselves. From the outside, Pheonix are the most colourful group to walk past on any given night. BBS seem to have several spiteful members, who really ought to be locked up themselves. Do they not realise its against the law to use a pseudonym in slander? I wonder? And if you are all so intent on bitching about one another, how come Pheonix have walked away with so many prizes, for their costumes and camaraderie? Oh and just incase you're wondering, I'm a member of the 'Go out and Enjoy yourself' Society and will be watching you all from the sidelines.

Well said Smile - you have summed up the light hearted banter to a T. It is such as shame that a few have to take it too far and make everyone in bonfire look like small minded people.

I am very disappointed with a certain society that I have spent many, many years supporting. I sincerely hope that the people on this forum do not represent the whole society. I also really hope that everyone can put this all aside and enjoy tomorrow night together.
