Try Lancing College, not as pushy as Brighton C and has more gravitas than Hurst. Good luck, hope your income can stretch that far. Are you from London? must do coffee, Bill's ?

@new lewesian - Judging by your grammar you clearly weren't privately educated, so I can understand why you want a better future for your children. However, state schools like Southover and Prior achieve excellent results, so why not save a few quid and let your kids get used to the real world? Priory pupils do get to Oxbridge, if that's your goal.

Priory is a good school, one of the best in the area. Nice set of parents as well.

Sergeant Major - Your English comprehension is extremely poor, the post asked about 'private' schools, why are you harping on about the Priory?
Always read the question - you would have been taught that at a private school?

I have one child at Priory, one at a private school outside of Lewes.
Academically, not much between them - kids who want to learn generally work hard and do their best. The private school has virtually zero disruption in class, and the pastoral care - attention to non-academic matters such as health, well-being and general happiness - has much more of a focus. In Priory, it doesn't really exist unless something is raised as an issue. And that's the difference the £000's bring - pro-active versus reactive.
LOGS - the difference really isn't worth the money. Rather than send a child to LOGS, I'd send them to Priory and invest in extra tuition in weaker subjects.
Lancing - really good, have friends whose children are very happy there.
Brighton College - it's a bit of a sweatshop. massively ambitious parents, highly competitive atmosphere, but outstanding results.
Bedes/Roedean - no experience, you'll need to do your own research.
But the truth is that Priory is a good school. There is, as with any state school in the UK, exposure to kids who smoke weed, who are disruptive and some bullying, because the resources are not there to cope as well as they would like, and that's a political issue. The school tries very hard to deal with this, and compared to other State schools it's an oasis.

@new lewesian Google 'Priory School Lewes' for its location and Ofsted results.

In the past I have employed a number of former Bedes' students just after they finished and they were universally work-shy and generally had an attitude that the world owes them a favour. Could just be a coincidence but it was a large enough number over a number of years for me to think it's something to do with their education. Priory and Brighton College students are generally the hardest working and most socially normal, LOGS kids tend to be a bit weird and socially awkward.

Went to Priory School last night and was very impressed. It has certainly changed since I was therefore in the mid 80s to early nineties. The only bits that were the same were the gym and chapel. Mind you it was falling down around our ears in my time there.

@Private Member. You were making some sense before you started warning of exposure to "kids who smoke weed"...as if they are somehow inherently bad or damaging to other kids. I know an awful lot of fantastic people who smoked weed as teenagers, and an awful lot of horrible people who didn't. I'd be far more worried about your child drinking, using social media or consuming lots of sugar than smoking the occasional spliff.

Weedy - I know many LOGS pupils and I certainly wouldn't over generalise that they are a bit weird or socially awkward. Most of them know how to hold a knife and fork and are quite aware of their surroundings.
As for smoking weed, well, this appears to be endemic nowadays, not all kids turn into zombies after smoking a little pot

Between children who went to the same private school, there's a great sense of loyalty entirely lacking in schools open to the public. When the school is particularly good at producing boys who achieve significant roles in society, there is no substitute for keeping up contacts made in schooldays and any parent should be making these plans for their children.

Love it !! - Priory became thus during my last year in it's decaying campus. Some went on to Oxbridge and great careers. Some became notable musicians. A good few became artisans and some even became dodgy geezers. I just love the aspiring parents nowadays, and feel sorry for their offspring. Logs, c-rap then and still the same LOL.

This is why we need our Grammar Schools back, we would then have less need for Private Schools. Cheaper too.

If all Private and Public schools were closed, think of the added pressure on the State sector. Socialist you might not like them but people deciding to pay for an education for their offspring, means more state parents can get places at their desired school.
