How much does a pint of Harvey's cost in Lewes pubs, and how does that compare with other beers?

£3.90 in Barcombe now. The Crown in Newick was always the cheapest around. Business rates have gone up unfortunately

Cost varies from about (but don't hold me to this) £3.60-£4.10 in the pubs of Lewes.
Harveys is one of the most expensive beers for a publican to buy in as they do not benefit from the duty relief of small breweries or the reduction in production cost of the larger breweries.
Another factor in the price of a pint is the tied model whereby a brewery or, as is more often the case, a Pub Co. adds a certain amount to the purchase price for a publican. This can be up to 100% over the price of beer free of tie.
You will also see pubs putting their prices up in the next few weeks as breweries and Pub Cos put their prices up by up to about 3.7%.

Great answer Huw. If you don't mind, what's the latest on you selling the Elly?

Cracking pint as it goes. New Manager I think, very friendly. I watched the Rugby in there, good atmosphere.

Stay clear of the Snowdrop where they are now charging an outrageous £4.25 for Best. The John Harvey Tavern charges 45p less.

Thanks for your interesting replies.
How do Harvey's prices compare with other beers like lager and cider?

Pub near my current project workplace in London is cheaper than Lewes pubs generally. I guess Lewes pubs just don;t get the volume of customer, and so have to put the prices up.
Also re the continuous disaster that is the Kings Head. They should just copy The Swan. It's not hard.

Pubs in Lewes get sufficient custom. But they can get away with charging prices that the DFLs. are prepared to pay. When we get a Wetherspoons they will have to compete or die.
