This morning some runners from Lewes (hardy souls given the downpours) were passing along the lanes in East Chiltington when they saw some signs. What are they about? - they asked. These signs had started popping up the weekend before There's an article about it in the link near this

Not everyone who lives in East Chiltington is an ardent fan of these signs. I was walking past a neighbour's house in Novington Lane at the weekend and was surprised to see no sign. Have you run out? - I asked someone in the protest group, later. Yes - but "Neighbour without a sign" was offered one before that happened. He thinks the signs are bland and far too small. He's designing one that's going to make a much bigger statement.
I look forward to seeing it. Sounds like it might be visible from space (maybe) or the the South Downs (for sure). I thought the idea of donturbanisethedowns etc was to stop things being built that could disharmonise the view from the protected havens of the high elves. I mean the fortunate inhabitants of the National Park - who are protected by their magic rings. Can we borrow one please? - for those of us living on the other side of the railway track.

Oh I think the elves on the other side of the tracks are being disturbanised as well. Cooks bridge....just. Between Ringmer and Laughton there's a nasty little rash. Not forgetting Rotter's Field in Ringmer itself. What about Lower Stoneham, somethings happening there too. Judging by what I make of Agenda 2030, there'll be a ribbon development from London to Brighton along the railway line. Take a look at how Haywards Heath has grown. Rural Shangri- las will be a thing of the past, the countrysi

How amusing to see that I've developed a stutter and cut off in mid sentence! Some elves have even managed to insert test3 before the comment with the same time stamp.

I seem to remember a while back, a story about old Eton alumni, Boris de Piffle offering asylum to the residents of Hong Kong in our green and pleasant land. Perhaps this development will offer sanctuary to one or two of the five or so million. It would certainly make chinese takeaways easier to get hold of out in the sticks. Then that reminds me of his rewilding project, was it a third of farmland he earmarked? What with the other green belt developments, where does he think food comes from? He probably thinks that servants just magic it up I suppose. With the economic trainwreck of the lockdowns, where's the money going to come from ,now all our industry has been moved to China, to buy food from wherever? Perhaps they'll do a swap- Hong Kong for food? It doesn't seem very likely.

The Great Stagnation seems to have arrived. Long prophecied by greybeard loons and ancient mariners on bits of paper carried by the wind. They could never have guessed it would have arrived like this in government mandated but self imposed isolation. Get in your cell and don't come out. Don't question anything, just do as you're told. Not with a bang, not even a whimper, the world ends with complete disinterest.

Hi Tom, Greybeard? - a book by Brian Aldiss - whose Helliconia Spring etc novels now seem like essential reading if we're planning to get through the next big heat or ice age (depending which way climate engineering technology by Russia / China takes us and whether the modelling of triggering volcanic eruptions (cooling) is balanced by having bigger bonfires. I'm sure Lewes will do its bit - if that's the solutionneeded. So the big state says we should all rely on solar power for electricity just as the skies go dark and we'll be lucky to get enough juice for phones and toy cars to keep the next generation of kids amused as we huddle in our caves. (Designer caves - for those who know the system.)
I seem to have gone off course. Back to signs. I've been told there aren't enough stakes in Lewes to make them. Hundreds more requested. Sometimes a little sign that fits on your phone tells enough of the story.

I don't think we need China or Russia the US or EU or anyone else. The sun's a little more powerful, in fact the earth is just a golf ball to that star. Maybe you've noticed (irony alert) the massive traction your post has created on the forum, perhaps it's because of the plague that's carried off half the population. There's few of us left now to pick up the pieces of our broken lives let alone stop a mega city being built next door.Actually,it might help if you said Trump might construct a golf course there as well, that would mobilise a few of the walking wounded survivors like nothing else. Public health announcement- No animals were harmed, no minorities denigrated or deadly infections spread by this posting.

One consequence of the lockdown life may be that no one will be interested in whether there is in fact a city or a bunch of fields out here anyway. If they want to know - they'll just read about it on wikipedia. Maybe the whole area can be projected from Blackcap. Land promoters will click on liking the buildings view and objectors will click on the fields and mud view - and nobody will bother to go out and check what's really there anyway. Except - as you may have presciently predicted - the golfers who will be the last beings actually roaming the Earth.

"If it ain't on me mobile, it don't exist." That seems to be the way things are going. A year ago my comments were greeted with a jeering parrot chorus of insults, now a stony silence. At least it had a semblance of life. I think you're right Uiop, no one will know if the new metropolis is there or not, they're not interested. A year of muzzling and unquestioning acquiescence has dissolved the will to live leaving only a mute passive existence. It's like a creepy sci-fi disaster movie.
