We have the castle booked for 19th July 2014 and are looking for a place we can hire to erect a marque and use our own caterers and bring our own alcohol. We were hoping for Spring barn farm but they said they do not hire out in the summer. Baxters field will have all sorts of issues as we want live music and to set up the day before. We didn't want to go to far out of Lewes but are running out of ideas. Ideally we just need a field that we can bring everything to ourselves. Does anyone know any farmers etc or anything suitable? Thanks

I've been to a reception in Northease. The main part was a marquee though some of the school buildings were used- kitchen and toilets. It was good.
Also Rodmell- a mate of mine put up a marquee in a field. I have no idea who owned the land though. Sorry.
Anne of Cleaves do receptions if you want to continue the tour of historic Lewes.
Or Bentley Wildfowl.
All of these are a bit away from central Lewes though. Good luck!

You could approach Cliffe Bonfire Society and ask about the field they use for Rock in the Bog.

I'd get your hotel/ b and b bookings in early - that's likely to be the festival weekend if we have another Mumford-style festival this year.
You might want to ask the Laughing Fish in Isfield about the field behind their car park. It's now owned by a group of local residents who might be willing to rent it out to you for the weekend.
Other than that - how about approaching pells pool, who hire out in the evenings to parties ?

You could try Housedean farm.. It's not exactly in town, but has plenty of parking and your guests could camp there. A friend booked it for her 40th last year with marquee & music etc and it worked really well.

Why not forget the castle and get married somewhere like Beechwood, go and sign the register very simply and get a lovely local Celebrant to create a wedding ceremony for you.
You will save loads of money and so will your guests, you won't have to divide the day up. Parking is easy and I think you can camp there. Cooksbridge has a railway station. Or what about Southover Grange book the whole place, you have the gardens to yourself in the evening.
