I am shortly moving to Lewes and will be commuting daily to and from London. Is the train service from Lewes fairly reliable early in the mornings and evenings? Are the trains packed or is it easy to find a seat?

A please or thank you would be nice now that you are moving to a well mannered place. You can keep your bad manners for your London visits.

I take the train to Haywards Heath each day, on the London line, and you can always get a seat, but don't expect a table to yourself or anything. Punctuality/reliability is not too bad compared to some other lines. Lewes is probably a better place to commute to London from than Haywards Heath or Brighton, where the trains fill up much quicker. As a bonus, your season ticket will cover you to Brighton as well, so you can go there for "free", or at least pre-paid, at the weekends thus avoiding the NCP (spit) parking fines, sorry charges. Parking at Lewes station is £4 a day, and you have to have coins. It's less if you have a season ticket, but I think there's a waiting list for those.
Word of warning though, some of the trains on the way back split at Haywards Heath and sometimes only four carriages go to Lewes. If you're on one of those, it will be jam packed at rush hour.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Andrew - really useful to know. Presumably parking at Lewes station isn't a problem if you get there early enough?
