All suggestions welcome of what & where to get a reasonably priced decent take-away meal in Lewes? We havent used take-away in years so bit out of touch with what is available in town. eg which Lewes indian restaurant would any of you recommend nowadays?

Can't beat spice merchant in my humble opinion but i'm hearing lots of good stuff about 'a restaurant' by waitrose.
I also enjoy the Beijing for a Chinese, pizza express for pizza and the chippy in Fischer street for fish and chips.
Good luck but make sure you give us a run down on where you went to, what you had and what it was like !!!

I like a kebeb (Not a doner) I always buy a shashlek from the kebeb establishment opposite the Rainbow.Cubes of lamb...Yummy.I like their breads too, they make them themselves.Much better than the pittas you often get.

Have sampled each chinese for takeaways, and Yummy Yummy is fantastic. No I don't work there.

Yeah, Yummy yummys is good, their delivery service is always quicker than the time they tell me on the phone, but I must admit, i like a curry, and the Beijing comes up trumps for that genre. And like everyone else says - south street chippy is the best for that criteria.

spice merchant is by far the best curry in house. Sadly the takeaway food is seriously lacking in anything other than grease, don't know why?

I have tried yummy yummy about 3 times and think that their food is very orange and congeals into a sticky goo after a while. Tastes nice but its as if they put too much monosodium glutomate in it.
The one down in Lansdowne rd (Dragon Palace) never disappoints. always piping hot, fresh and constant in flavour.

How about Carnival in Fisher Street. Always good plenty of it with some freebies. Dragon Palace no 2 on my list, as for Indian food THE SHANAZ ITS THE MUTTS (please dont slay me either as I am new to this)

To tell you the truth, everyone has their favourites for takeaways. I don't think that any are better or worse that the other, it's just what you're used to and happy with.

Spot on. I agree with everything you've written except the 'a restaurant' bits wouldn't ever eat there didn't like the curry's she sold in the shop.

But it is the only indian in the town which sells authentic indian food, the others just cater for our tastes. I work with an indian lady and she buys things from Chaula, which I think is praise indeed.

Praise yes but authentic Indian food isn't what I want from a british Indian take away. Its no secret that we've changed the food to suit us. But thats what I like to eat. I wouldn't eat at 'a restaurant' because I didn't like the curry's she sold in the shop.

The atmosphere of 'a restaurant' seems very Indian in a good way. The cooking is quite good but very bland. I like chillies.
