That's a United Petroleum garage too isn't it? United Petroleum has gone bust. Although the operation is being routed via another trading name the suppliers will only let them have about half the petrol they used to.

So all travelling people are crooks are they? Another constructive entry on this forum I see.

When did A Pike eyyy say that all travelling people crooks? All I could see were 2 facts being stated, that they were selling red diesel, dodgy petrol and cheap fags and baccy, and that they were a travelling family running it.

If he had said it was run by non-travellers, would it have meant that all non-travellers were crooks? No, of course not. Sounds like someone is getting offended on someone elses behalf again (or possibly someone has a guilty conscience)

It's usually because they have a pointless existence that they have to feign offence on behalf of others, it massages their "Right on" crudentials with their equally "right on" yet generally pointless mates called Tristan, Jonty etc etc etc

If as suggested above, the garage was being run by a traveller family, I guess it is probably closed, because they have gone travelling. Probably the only traveller family in the country who actually travel. Bit silly opening a static petrol station as a travelling family though, I would have thought!

I filles up there on Sunday evening and noticed the name on my receipt was 'Selmeston Filling Station'. I always thought the filling stations at Clayhill, Offham and Selemeston were the same company so has the filling station at Selemeston also run into problems?

United Petroleum have gone bust for cryin' out loud. UP own Offham, Clay Hill, Ringmer, Selmeston/Polegate and a couple of others. They also do Oil Deliveries from Clay Hill. The owner Anthony is trying to keep the business running through another limited company but the suppliers will not let them have as much petrol as they let UP have so shortages and various other shenanigans are occurring.

A real shame that small independents like this have so much trouble making a go of it nowadays. If UP go we are left only with the very overpriced big-company garages on the A26 and A27. And Tescos.....

The loss of small local and independent garages was, a result of the motorist greed, many activities that your local garage carried out, such as mending your kids bike, welding up your wheel barrow, servicing your motor mower, and selling petrol ,never ever did pay but was subsidised by the vehicle repairs, and the sale of tyres ,exhaust systems, batteries ,etc and your local garage valued you as a customer and would do what ever it could to retain you custom , but when Mr Exhaust and Mr Tyre breezed in to town and because of there tremendous buying power were able to offer there products a little bit cheaper, you all deserted your loyal local garage's in droves despite the loyalty and good service they had given you ,and proberly your parents as well over the years,.Now who gives you that quality, of service and who cares if your mower wont start,or little Jimmys bike needs Welding You all made the choice ,now you pay the price, Retired , Small Garage Owner

Mr Pan.
You story is not just of garages but of retail outlets in general. It's not greed either. I'm afraid it's capitalism for short sighted morons (us).

I need a Honda C70 carb. Do you have one left over from your garage by any chance?

After years and years of Tesco Lewes being 3p or 4p per litre more expensive than Tesco Eastbourne, last week they were the same price.
Has Lewes got cheaper or Eastbourne more expensive?
I'm sure Tesco means shark in some language I haven't yet encountered.

Used the new station once - stank of cigarette smoke. Saw the guy smoking outside when passing later. Scarey!
Was in Newcastle the other day - Diesel was 5p a litre cheaper than down here. I fill up in Asda when I can as they're cheapest round here.

mo - thanks for letting us know what is going on. It is my nearest petrol station so I would certainly carry on making use of it - as I have done since its last re-opening. Hope to see the shutters back up soon.
