in Malling notices have appeared on lamposts regarding the expanding parking restrictions. A quick look seems to suggest no waiting in Landport and Malling. Surely this isn't correct? Does this mean a separate order follows regarding parking bays and permits?

The amusing things is, there doesn't seem to be any restrictions coming to Church Lane. If that isn't blatant cronyism then I'm the pope with 3 testicles. At least it will give the Sussex Depress plenty of stories involving fights over parking, to write about

I still can't believe there will be no onstreet parking bays in these areas. Bizarre.

Hahahaha, so after huge public outdry, ESCC are forced to back down over proposals to introduce a new parking zone in Malling so instead they're going to paint double yellows all over the place. That's just petty and petulant and more than a little devicive. Everyone says parking in Malling is fine and there's no need for controlled parking so they paint lines everywhere, get rid of all the parking spaces and wait a few years until everyone is complaining there's nowhere to park in Malling then use that as an excuse to introduce a controlled parking sheme. It's purely cynical and one can only imagine how much of a back-hander NCP are chucking the idiots who came up with this latest debacle.
Still, at least it'll be much easier to drive fast through Malling and use Spences Lane as a cut through to the rest of the estate when traffic up Malling Hill is bad.
Merlin, is there any way you can get hold of the names of the jokers who put this latest proposal together and find out if they're the same people who proposed a parking tax on Malling last year?

Johnnyboy provided a link to the draft Parking Order which lists the streets affected by proposed double yellow lines. My street is listed as having "No Waiting At Any Time" restrictions - and I read that as meaning you couldn't park anywhere. But the draft Regulations make it clear that they apply to just a few metres in 4 sensible locations. Whilst some of the new double yellow lines are just on corners, to prohibit parking all along Spences Lane and right the way up Coombe Road seems hugely over the top and completely needless. At present, you can't drive more than ten miles an hour or so down these roads because of the parked cars which is great as there are a lot of kids playing in the area and plenty of cats running into the road. Get rid of the parked cars and Spences Lane in particular becomes a long, straight, wide road which will only encourage drivers to drive faster.
Whilst it is perhaps briefly inconvenient that there are so many cars parked around the place, the only people who drive round there are local residents who I would suggest are all used to giving way to each other. You can literally fit a bus down those roads anyway (They do twice a day) so there can be no issue with emergency access or anything like that.
The thing I don't get is why the determination to meddle with things? Parking in Malling has remained unchanged for as long as I can remember and nobody to my knowledge has ever had an issue with it. Now, all of a sudden they first want to impose the stupid parking scheme everyone else in town hates and then when that gets (Rightly) shot down in flames, some bright spark decides to paint double yellow lines everywhere.
Is there one of those silly budgets in place whereby if it doesn't get spent it gets taken away? That's the stupidest thing about local government, the way departments spend money for no reason just to "protect" their budget and all this, if it isn't part of some insidious scheme to force people into accepting parking regulations in the future, smacks of spending money for the sake of it. There is nothing wrong with the parking regs in Malling as they stand so why on earth the insistence on changing them?

I have looked at the maps and on Spences Lane they're proposing to yellow line all the way from the Spences Field turning to the bottom of Coombe Road. That's a long enough stretch of clear road for an irresponsible driver to hit 40mph before needing to slow down for parked cars or a corner.
