Anyone who has lived in Lewes for more than 12 minutes will know that the site of the old Clayhill Nurseries is where the newish development called the Nurseries now is, which is next to the Spinneys. This development is to be extended at the rear and side beyond the existing Nurseries.
It could be a troll but he is right!

Cutler Holdings are due to submit a planning application for 53 townhouses and flats and live/work units on the site adjacent to Sackville House behind Tescos. The architects and agent consulted Malling community a few weeks ago at Malling Community Centre. Public notices for the application will be made through the typical channels (Site notices and local paper notices). Cheers - Matt

First ive heard of it.
Im in Malling and no one consulted me.
Is Sackville House the old Fujitsu place.

Odd it's the first you have heard of it, as a few years back planning permission was given for 100 houses on the vacant lot alongside Mayhew Way. The new (probably more realistic) plan from Cutler Holdings is for only half as many. Perhaps bigger and more expensive?
The old developer managed to con Lewes planners into letting him get away with excluding affordable housing. Are Cutlers following down the same track?

Is building on the floodplain ok now, then?

From speaking to Chris Oakley (Oakley Estate), he said that 350 leaflets had been posted for the consultation. Sadly they missed Cranmer Close, De Grey and Castle Court who back onto the site. An oversite was the reason and not everyone in Malling was invited to the consultation.
The proposed site is meant to be predominantly town houses (apparently £400k-£450k!) with no affordable housing. There is also an element of work/live units on the eastern perimeter of the site, next to the ambulance service centre. The scheme is being built on a flood plain and the ground floor will be sacrificial (garage) for that reason. Any opposition to it doesn't bode well given that LDC recently allowed an extension of a year to the current planning permission for the commercial/industrial units down the road. District Cllrs didn't even batter an eyelid when members of the public spoke against the industrial units again. They were happy to talk about the Chailey Residents home for 2.5hrs though, continuously citing the phrase 'there is a need, but in the wrong location'.

@Kendo Caster - yes, Sackville House is the old Fujitsu building. I'm guessing it's that fenced off bit of land opposite that is going to be developed?

Where am I going to pick my blackberry's from if they do this, they are delicious from this piece of land...and so many of them, probably because it used to be part of the old rubbish tip, with the potential methane problems that causes and thats before I move in!!!

Interesting that the oversight in leafletting residents just happened to be the roads backing onto the site !!! If Chris Oakley is involved i guess the profits will pay for his new house on the Avenue. Disgraceful that no affordable housing will be included, but if it's private land, there isn't much potential for the usual trade offs councils make with public land. Will the South Downs National Park authority have a say or will they delegate that to the pushover district councillors ?

The archictects have been consulting with the SDNP as part of the design development, which suggests to me that they don't disapprove! I'd eat my favourite hat if LDC refused planning permission for this proposal this time.

I understand that the developer would be very keen to provide affordable housing and reduce the amount of commercial space they are obliged to build. Lews DC don't agree.

i think there will be affordable housing when building new housing estate 25% off them have to be affordable housing so on a site off 50 houses like this one there will be 10 hopeful
