Hello,
I have a mattress I need taking to Ham Lane. I have no means of doing it. Looking for a 'man with a van' who could take it for me. Surprisingly internet search not very helpful to look for this sort of thing. Looking to pay £20 for it. If anyone knows anyone local and can give me a number?
Thanks, Debbie

I should probably add that I live about a 3 minute drive from Ham Lane.

Thank you Jane B. Do you know a number?
Sorry Mike. I don't understand what you mean, those places aren't actually a 3 minute drive, I'm literally a 3 minute drive , by Lewes Station if you must know. 20 'notes' for under half hour work yes, sorry if you don't feel that's enough but I think it is! I paid £60 for 2x removal men to move my stuff in a 2 hour time period!!

If you have a car they are not impossible to roll up (hard but not impossible), I got a double into the boot of a saloon car.
Cargo straps are pretty cheap and a god send, once rolled replace the cargo strap with duct tape and dump.

Drop it off at Boots. That lowlife scrounging druggie can make his bed and lie in it.

Thanks for the tip, I'd happily do that but I don't and can't drive and unfortunately don't know anyone locally to ask them as a favour or I wouldn't be asking.

If I come to you in my van (assuming I lam in Lewes) I have a ten-minute drive to your place. Another 10 arranging things and loading. Three minutes to the tip, park up, lug the mattress up into the skip, another 15 by the time I drive back out of Ham Lane and go home. That's assuming that there are no delays at the dump; when the gates are shut to allow skips to be moved around inside. Add 15 mins.
Let's say an hour's work. With the running costs of the van we are looking at perhaps £35 minimum. But: I am carrying YOUR waste I have to visit the commercial tip. I was speaking with a licensed waste carrier recently- and he had to charge someone in Lewes town £80 to remove and dispose of a mattress.
I suggest you find a friend with an estate car or roof rack, who will pretend it is their matress at the domestic tip.

Thanks for the info white van man. I appreciate your point on that and didn't realise it had to be done commercially. I have had a licensed man give me a quote for £35 so I've accepted it, it's worth it just to be rid of the thing.

Sigh another case of a Lewes tradesman wanting £100 an hour, did you train for long to drive a van and carry a mattress?

35 notes. A fiver on top as a tip for a trip to the tip is a little more like it.

Very surprised blatant liar didn't recommend just dumping on the downs for free. He loves a bit of fly tipping. ( see the soil thread)

Dumping soil in the countryside does not compare to mattresses, are you retarded or do you not get the joke?

Didn't get the joke. There wasn't a joke. He was condoning flytipping. And uses the word retard as an insult! Very poor judgment and taste.

To the the poster above. Yes dumping soil in the country side is flytipping. We will actively seek prosecution.

That really wouldn’t surprise me if LDC took the time to prosecute for dumping soil, too busy to sort the homeless or answer the phone though.

As I said I'll pick it up for a tenner I'll pick it up and dispose of it as household waste but if you're happy to pay 35 quid crack on

Well said M8 - don't need a roof rack, just tie it to the roof of your motor. It aint gonna fall off @ 20mph through Lewes.

make sure you get a receipt from the licensed waste carrier with his EA number on it which can be checked on line. At £35 it could easily end up down a country lane, mattresses are classed as non recyclable with most receiving depots are charging £50 + vat per item.
