Righting Wrongs

In 1066 the brutal Norman invasion of England replaced the Saxon king Harold with William the Bastard. People who reminded him of his doubtful parentage usually ended up being skinned alive, so we can safely assume he was of uncertain temper. The Harrowing of the North which involved the virtual extermination of the Saxon inhabitants leaves one to assume that his fellow Normans shared his character defects. Sadly we know that the Saxons had behaved in a similarly reprehensible manner when they had invaded England so we must admit that the Normans were probably no worse than anyone else. What these Normans introduced was the Feudal System which I presume means they settled disputes by feuding with eachother and the last party standing inherited whatever they were feuding about.; the other party being dead. Time passed, there were many wars when the Norman Lords felt the need to defend or increase their holdings back in France. These lords, being feudal, didn't stint on feuding with each other in our sceptred isle and the bloodshed continued. Come the reign of Elizabeth 1st we find her astrologer and general spy master and mystic John Dee coming up with the idea of a Brytishe (ye olde)Empire. With the constraint of curfew time, I will pause for the nonce and hopefully continue after the howling of the mob subsides.

That isn't what the feudal system was at all and the Normans didn't introduce it. Please continue. I'm all in favour of your opinions being expressed in your own threads but as it was entitled righting wrongs felt obliged to correct you.

You need to keep up with the most recent historical study. Research suggests that the Anglo-Saxons and indigenous Britons mixed.

'Ancient Britons were not overrun by invading Saxons in the Dark Ages, suggests a new map based on the DNA of people from the UK and Europe.
The study, published today in Nature, provides the first strong genetic evidence of the Saxon invasion, and shows how much they interbred with the locals once they got there.'

Thanks for that useful info Basil. Tom Pain will of course dismiss the website on which this was published as being an organ of the New World Order CIA funded globalist reptiles. He is too bloated with Q anonsense to extricate himself from the rabbit hole he has spent a lifetime digging.

Invading armies are famous for "interbreeding" as you so delicately put it. I'm sure there's plenty of Norman dna as well. Please provide some sources for your allegations Nan but not from the CIA this time. I think you will certainly win the Admiral of Ad-hominims award this week, congratulations. Who did,Nev?

Look out up Tom. Find out what the feudal system is at the same time. Seems like a bit of fact checking generally before you post might not go amiss.

Fact checking on the internet is like tossing a coin and I'm too busy. Feud- feudal says quite enough for me, faintly amusing and a lot of truth in it. History is written by the sort of people who are paid to believe that a dozen fanatics armed with stanley knives and a few flying lessons flew massive high tech aircraft and blew up 2 skyscrapers then demolished another by magic in the most militarised country in the world with enough air defences to protect themselves fifty times over: oh yes, and masterminded by a bloke in a cave with a mobile. Cor blimey, guv!

Now where was I? Well I wasn't doing a piece for Encyclopedia Britannica just the forum with it's mob. For the traditional approach I recommend Peter Ackroyd and for Saxon history - the Anglo Saxon Chronicles. I just intend to put in some details that weren't touched in my education that intrigued me and so must go back a bit in my own awkward way, perhaps playing with words like feud a little for harmless fun. The fact that the Normans, after failing to storm London Bridge and after fording the Thames upstream, were allowed access to the City without opposition seems odd. A deal was struck and the City of London was allowed to keep all it's rights and privileges! In those days cities were usually plundered with loads of gratuitous sack and violence, not to mention a bit of interbreeding.
Interestingly enough, The City still retains those rights and privileges and is a separate legal entity to the UK, not being beholden to Monarch or Parliament. It's as inexplicable as the Nazis not taking Switzerland in WW2 when all around it fell to their military prowess. Having lost this part once already to the curfew's memory hole, I'll leave it there. Be seeing you,( who is number one?).

Your animosity is puzzling. Why are you so defensive on behalf of the capitalist system? I've never mentioned the name rothschild and yet you can't stop doing it. I really don't think a single ethnicity runs the world financial system and as soon as you get that silly notion out of your head you'll never see it for what it is. You're trolling the wrong target.

Given some of the things you have written about green, I don't think his animosity is puzzling at all Tom. I'm also mystified that you appear to be surprised that he links you with a conspiracy theory. Given your self proclaimed attitude towards fact checking you should be grateful that anyone bothers to respond to you at all.

I was talking about fact checking as in properly checking facts from sources you can either trust or compare. I'm glad you checked out feudalism in England. You might have a point on its introduction to England. It would seem that opinion on the extent to which the Saxons were already using the feudal system has changed since I studied this at school and some historians would say that the Normans did introduce feudalism to England. It really doesn't have anything to do with feuds though.

Well to be honest, I didn't really think it did, but it suits the Normans to a T. I doubt the author of 1066 and All That thought the Venomous Bede was his real name either. I expect some top dog Saxons were in favour of feudalism , there's always plenty do, and supported William hoping for an earldom or some such. The opinion of historians changes with the mores of society ,with the most ambitious ready to go along with whatever most furthers their career. I'm sure we can expect future historians to describe the Saxon "migration" as mostly women who faced sexual discrimination in the employment market in white male supremacist Saxony. No doubt their flotilla was accompanied by boats with pink sails full of epicene young men as well.
