We're moving to Lewes from London (originally from W.Sussex so we know Lewes well) but have a few questions about day to day life.
One of our burning questions is about Parking: the house we are thinking of buying is in Zone B. I have read elsewhere that it's one of the worst zones for finding a space. Is that true? Can we park in Car Parks with the B permit or is it matter of driving around and around until you find one inside this very small zone?
Also, anyone know how busy Offam Road / White Hill / Mount Pleasant gets with traffic? Is it very polluted, we know the bus routes go there?

That section of the Offham Road up White Hill and into the one way system is one of the busiest roads in Lewes. There's a constant queue of cars at rush hour times and outside of that, people drive up there pretty quickly. Not too many lorries luckily, it's mainly cars but enough lorries that your house will shake fairly often if you live on teh road itself. Not sure where you got the idea there's a bus route there, there's a couple of buses a day that go that way.
Sun Street, Lancaster Street and Abinger Placem are used as a rat run by basically everyone in town heading towards Landport or out of town towards Chailey so what might look like a quiet, residential street is actually very busy with traffic. By contrast, Talbot Terrace and St John's Hill are very quiet as they don't go anywhere particularly useful although you do have trains less than a hundred yards from your house and there's a chance Talbot Terrace will end up under water again at some point.
Best bet is to come to Lewes at rush hour on a weekday and on a satuday afternoon and see it for yourself!

Thank you, Ed Can Do, that was very insightful. We are attending another viewing during evening rush hour tomorrow to suss out the situ, and our first viewing was on a busy saturday afternoon in heavy rain which was quite noisy (though not inside the house.)
We actually don't use our car very regularly, more just for weekend day trips out of town to visit friends/family - so most of the time it'll sit parked whilst we walk to train station during week and walk to shops etc. It's just a matter of WHERE we would park it, if the situation is as dire as you make it to be. We are feeling very nervous about it as although we live in London, we have a quiet road and off-street parking. We know we won't get either of those things in Lewes so it's all about compromise I suppose as Lewes is overall far nicer than London!
Any other knowledgeable opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks Horseman7, but because we have a very large fluffy dog who gets super muddy we're not normally welcome for car clubs and most people don't want that kind of mess in their boot/back seat.... I also don't know if car club would include trips out of town to visit our family in random locations etc?! We will walk everywhere within the town itself. Thanks anyway

You’ll end up parking in Wallands and walking in. Though Wallands is a different zone so you’ll be paying twice

There's plenty of residential streets with off-street parking in Lewes, just not in that bit. Nevill is your best bet, although there are a handful suitable places in Malling and Landport too and if it's a big house you're selling in London, go for Houndean.
