There are builders digging up our road and some berk from the neighbourhood keeps leaving notes on their machinery criticising them for starting a day late, moaning about permit prices and congratulating them on their working hours. Plus they've been accused of stealing someone's ladder. The builder got quite pi**ed off with it this morning and made it clear that if anyone has an issue with their work methods they should tell him face to face and he can explain when things are being done and why.

I know people in Lewes are generally critical of builders but if the phantom note-writer is on this forum please stop as you're just cheesing off some bloke who is digging up a road. He could take it personally, make a deliberate mistake and have to come back and do it all over again.

If you want to moan about building work phone the Council and the contractors' head office, don't leave silly notes and accuse people of nicking stuff.

How stupid to leave petty little notes on their machinery, don't people have anything better to do?

Which building company is it? If they're the same as the idiots who worked on the Cliffe or are still busy making a mess of the tunnel or have taken nearly a year to dig up the Avenue three times then they deserve all teh criticism they get. If not, then maybe they should put up a sign themselves saying "Please don't hate us, we're completely different from the useless wasters working everywhere else in town and we plan on finishing this work on time rather than when it suits us". That should clear up any confusion.

Or speak to the organisation in charge of the works (ESCC, LDC etc)...
Some peeps hate confrontation - maybe the builder is a tad aggressive?!?

Not the builder's fault though is it Ed?

Well, if he's a different builder then no, it's not his fault. If he does work for any company associated with the long list of piss-poor road works going on around town then perhaps he can pass the message up the chain of command a bit and maybe encourage them to get things done on time.

I will never understand why councils don't offer a set fee for work done and only pay it over when the work is completed and to a satisfactory standard. The speed at which most road works round here go at, one can only assume the builders are getting paid by the hour.

This builder wasn't aggressive; he was rightly peeved off that people were leaving notes on his digger before the job had even started!

If he's still there in 6 months time I'll join in with you ECD; I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for a while.

Builders tend to build things. If all you whingers can do any better why not start your own company and do it quicker.

I think the approach by the phantom note writer is refreshingly different and quite amusing - it made me laugh. In fact, if I were a builder I think I'd laugh too.
So thanks to whoever the phantom note writer may be (and to the person who posted this info on the forum).

If the 'builders' doing the tunnel get any slower, a glacier from the next ice age will block the tunnel and stop them finishing.

notes have got the message across though haven't they - sounds like a brilliant idea - could stat sticking notes on parking fee machines - with superglue - over the slots....

Absolutely brilliant. That means we can never complain about anything ever unless we're prepared to do it ourselves. If i pay for goods and services I expect the supplier to know their job - not to tell me to do it myself.

Why moan to a builder about the cost of permit prices anyway??! Whats it got to do with him??
