I have to agree with ! Their costumes were really good and CSBS had a brilliant procession tonight. Waterloo didnt seem to have anything in it apart from a few ghengis Khans and some smugglers. Their fireworks were good though.

Loved the procession, excellent all round.
My views and observations - Waterloo had my favourite tableaux of Murdoch and Rebekah Wade.
Commercial Sqaure excellent fireworks as usual, saw Waterloo from a distance looked good.
Costumes best were Commercial, just from Southover.
Bonfire Boys were far more sensible throwing rookies, last year my ears were obliterated when one was thrown on the pavement. Yesterday only one came close, but was promptly kicked back in the middle of the road by a CSBS Bonfire Boy (thanks, who did that)
Phoenix Walking Group larger than I thought will be interesting to see what happens to them.
Feel slightly disappointed that St Anne's Church was covered with out of town students. Always grew up with the understanding that the Church was the designated children's area. I never go there for that reason, as feel it's selfish to deprive a kid a good spot to watch the procession, which I had when I was younger.
Anyone another great year.

They did wear 1st Pioneer from WBS and Pioneers from 2 other Societies I noticed. Also they probably looked big due to the massive gaps in their ranks. Also I noticed that half of them would not carry a torch! Mainly their TUDOR section! Bad times! OFF with their heads!!

After being made aware that some WBS members were not too pleased I hung back to take a look and could only see two members in - Samurai costumes - I noted the front of their headresses which are the same as a samurai trophy I have at home! Could have easily been mistaken though! What were the other pioneer costumes? Can we all, as members of other Societies, hold up our hands and categorically say that none of our members wear costumes of another Society - I very much doubt it. You may have the odd indian, viking, monk, zulu, mongolian, english civil war costume walking with you and it has not been an issue until this year - Why - it has always been that way. Do we now have to tell these people that they cannot process anymore unless they make a new costume or become one of the hundres of smugglers?

They are not samurai costumes they are ghengis khan. dont worry dilligaf about sussex bonfire counci.l have heard that real bonfire societys in sussex will not be inviteing them or letting them walk on there nights. but dont worry phoenix u can still walk at uckfield carnival.

Good night on the fifth! Although some slightly over-zealous no rookie zones in WBS procession for my liking.. (Bottleneck-Prison!!!), just meant we had to let rip a bit more outside the law courts, down the hill etc
And as far as Phoenix are concerned, they asked to be invited to Barcombe's night in two weeks and were told no. Quite right too, Comical Square.

Still confused with no factua,l level-headed answers to my points and questioning. It must mean that there are none. BTW Barcombe dont invite everyone as they want to keep things small and enjoyable for the residents of the village.

Clearly not a lot of you know what you are talking about. And I don't even belong to a Society. You might say I know a lot of people, across all boards, in the right places. With regards to Pheonix: Firstly, there is no written rule as to who wears what. Its a given that each society wears they're own respectively but quite rightly pointed out SHE (post@12:43) most Societies have similar. 2nd, The gaps in Pheonix should be adopted by other Societies. It is safer and pointed out to each Society every year. 3rd, Barcombe have invited other socities, 9 to be precise and do want to keep it small. BBS will be going. Pheonix will not. Nothing in that, just a fact. 4th, St Anne's church is normally regarded for kids but its a free area for all to see (therealalekid). 17XS, I think you'll find evry member of Pheonix carried torches and the only time they didn't was when they were waiting on new. Oh and TORCHES, they are not Ghengis Khan, they are Samurai and their costumes were made 20 years ago, by a Barcombe member, well before all this bickering and you were probably around. Funny eh, considering BBS and Barcombe walk together. Again just a fact. Nothing in it. As for next year... The Council will not be banning anyone from Bonfire and another fact, Pheonix have been welcomed to join in and have paid ll membership to date.

dilligaf and 17xs are most probably jealous, bitter borough members....all this ridiculous moaning about costumes....get over it!!!!everyone marches for the same reason....I love my society but I would never moan if another society decided to have similar pioneers....we should remember how lucky and privileged we are in lewes to have such a spectacle and amazing tradition every year....get over yourselves jealous people and put all this effort your putting into moaning about another society into your own great societies!

All this bonfire society stuff is reminiscent of primary school kids in the play ground and their 'exclusive' clubs. You lot should really think about growing up.

Smile... Just to correct you on a few facts! Phoenix did indeed have Samurai as they did have Ghengis Khan! The videos and pictures are there to see for all! This also goes for the non carrying of torches as said mainly by their tudor section. Finally, creating gaps that large in a procession in dangerous and not encouraged by any Society. The reason for this is that it allows the crowd to break away from the pavements and take to the streets filling these gaps which can stop higher ranking members or emergency services being able to get through the procession safely!! That is a fact! Traditionally it should be one arm and torch length apart from the person in front and they should use the whole width of the road keeping the crowd on the pavements.
