Answered the door this afternoon to a young man who said he was an ex-offender and he was selling household products. When I said no thank you, he lost it. He started swearing and then walked off. He then shouted that he'd come back and kick my door in. I felt threatened but also really sad for him and how quickly got so quickly. Saw him kicking some fences as we walked away but he didn't damage anything. Worried he might get more angry and threatening with others. Any experience of this elsewhere in Lewes recently? Is it a genuine selling scheme for ex offenders?

It's a scam. Also, there have been a few dodgy people pushing a couple of naff, random fliers through the door lately. Which clearly cant be worth the shoe leather !

It's a notorious scam that was exposed years ago. If someone's threatening you, you should report it to the police so that it can be nipped in the bud.

Always wondered about this, I generally buy something - benefit of the doubt also, have sent a message to Sussex police to ask will report back.

I've had him in my old place just outside of Lewes. Was a bit scary in the middle of nowhere. Luckily I had a big chain on the door and a very large dog barking at him.

We regularly get callers like this. Never had any aggression, just rather sad pleading. Generally try to buy an item. The genuine ones will show I'd and information about the rehabilitation programme they are part of. If anyone gets aggressive I would call the police

Think I saw him yesterday, was he tall, skinny mid-late twenties with light brown hair? He looked like he was checking out properties. Paid him off for some leather wipes!

A genuine caller will have an ID card.
Ask to see it.

These kids do have ID always on display.
Had them at my door umpteen times and without exception they've been fine - very polite and open.
All ex offenders trying to get on the straight and narrow - something to be applauded especially when they have to knock on the doors of the wealthy tight wad lefties of Lewes.
Ober priced crap it may be that they're selling but that's down to the leeches they work for.
Always buy from them and give them a bit over the top (better than wasting it on the junkie beggars or foreign Big Issue sellers of Lewes)
Good luck and I hope a decent future to young men doing their best

They're very frequent callers at our house. They sell poor quality over-priced tat, but I used to buy every now and again in recognition of the possibility that some of them might not be casing the joint. But over the past year they have started getting quite aggressive when I decline to buy, and so now I simply tell them that I now never buy because of their contemporaries' attitude and behaviour. I instead donate to ex-offender charities such as BounceBack.

They knocked on the door few weeks back. I declined their wide selection of tat and got called a **** by a tall skinny scouser.
And here's I not wanting to stereotype people be it ex offenders or scallies.

And after the selling and abusing, they get picked up by their boss, a modern day Fagin, who takes the money of them and advises them to slur the voice a bit more or stress the scouse ex offender more or limp a bit because Lewes householders are perfect suckers!
