Hi there
just wanted to ask what area you would buy in in Lewes as an investment. Thinking 3 bedrooms in a quiet area.
Thanks

I would suggest the best investment in Lewes is buying shares in Belgo plc, the ultimate owners of Bills. They make a lot of money by pretending to provide local, organic produce and actually buying stuff on the cheap from mulitnationals and driving it down from London then don't pay any tax on any of it so the dividend return must be incredible.

Agree with Ed can do. At one time many years ago, Bill's was good. You could buy lovely organic veg, wonderful big bunches of freshly picked herbs, and artisan bread baked in France.
Those days are sadly long gone. Now it is just mass produced jars of this and that that you can get in any supermarket, in a space serving average food at inflated prices. Lewes spawned a monster.
I wonder if Bill has anything to do with it anymore?

Any area is a good investment, as property prices will continue to rise. But if you are looking for an income as well, then buy a cheaper property in Newhaven or east of the A22 which you can rent out to a family on benefit whose rent is paid by the state.

Bill's in tube station is an indication of where the company has gone. I understand it is Pubs next.

Please think before you buy your "investment" . Buy to let destroys communities and only puts pressure on house prices. If you want to increase social divisions go ahead, plunder our town.

There are virtually no three bed houses in Malling, meaning it's about the only place locals have a slight chance of buying a house at apparently people from London can't imagine a house with less than three bedrooms. There are lots in Landport but people from London don't want to live there apparently. Lord knows why not, it's quiet, the houses are large and there are nice views of the river.

If you must invest in property do it properly. Buy a three bed place in Brighton or Hove, turn the living room into a fourth bedroom and rent it out to students. You'll get two thirds of the rent you'd normally get for the whole house for each room and whilst they will trash the place, you get to keep their deposits and it'll only go to more students the following year so who cares if it's a bit grubby. You could buy three, three bed houses in Moulsecombe for the price of one in Lewes and get nine times the income as a result. You'd have to be remarkably stupid to consider Lewes as a serious option for buying an investment property.

High property prices mean rental yields in Lewes aren't that great.
You'd be better off buying in Newhaven or Peacehaven, yields are far better there.

Don't for one moment think this forum is a true reflection of the general population of Lewes or indeed Sussex. It is a sad little cyber place where in truth only a handful of people post.
