Wildlife verges
We have selected verges across the county known as wildlife verges, which have been identified as having wildlife of particular interest. Roadside verges can provide a habitat for many rare species of wildflowers and mammals, which need to be protected.

Let us know the specific location and types of wild flower and/or the wildlife that are using the habitat. The County Ecologist will then assess the location to decide whether it is suitable to become a designated Wildlife verge.

Just the strongest thugs have survived. Yarrow, Oxeye Daisy, Dandelion, Buddleia, Thistles and Nettles with long grass. Lazy, Cheap and short sighted.

These signs are nothing more than useless urban clutter. I haven't found anyone yet who knows what they mean but even if they did, the signs provide no useful information for drivers. Nether do they specify where the wildlife area begins or ends so grass cutting contractors are none the wiser. The signs often appear on by passes or urban verges of no special wildlife merit. Since the number of cuts this year has been reduced to only TWO there is no differenc and I suspect it's simply an excuse for low standards.
The Department of Transport has just issued guidance on reducing useless signs and street clutter. ESCC take note!
In the meantime I can only think that they might provide useful poster sites for community use.

All you who complain the verges look a mess should get a grip. If we lose our Bees were all gonna eventually lose or food supplies. Wild verges may look shabby but its vital for the wildlife- DON'T use pesticides !!!!
