Who was it who ran with the torch past the Pelham Arms? Was is Lisa Brack? Who is Lisa Brack?

It was Lisa Brack. There is a photo on the official web page but little info. She is German. Trawling the web I found a couple of videos of her demonstration, or selling, smartphones (My very limited German isn't good enough). Maybe that's why two Samsung photographers were so interested in her.
So why is, what appears to be, a German phone salesperson carrying the UK torch?

I thought I saw a very old man with a short moustache, carrying the torch in one hand and raising his other arm at 45 degrees. The number on his shirt was 1936. Was he German?

Curiously enough, the Olympic torch relay was invented at the 1936 Olympics, under the direction of that moustachioed chap Sussex Jim mentions.

Thanks, Harry.

I had the privilege of watching young Gabriela take the torch on the High Street - I've added a link to her story. She is everything I'd hope for in a torchbearer - a young person who really deserves recognition and a big round of applause.

That she handed over to a person whose chief contribution has been selling lots of mobile phones to people is just revolting, frankly. I might well drop Samsung a line and tell them what I think of that.

@ Mum, perhaps you can explain how much money Lisa Brack raised for good causes, or indeed what great public service she performed to deserve the honour of carrying the torch? Or maybe you will now begin to understand what I was getting at in the other thread.

Do not mess with Lisa, she is (potentially) handy with a gun, according to her Facebook profile photo :-/
But is anyone really surprised that even the supposed local heroes carrying the torch are seeded with corporate connections? The whole Olympic event is a corporate farce, although McDonalds have just said that they won't be taking advantage of the tax breaks official sponsors are offered (but how will we know?)

government and big business.
Why would you be surprised about the torch bearing scandal? You have to
understand that these companies care only about profit nothing else.

her name was Elisabeth Brack, from Munich and I would be highly suprised if she was from Samsung - the link above to a Lisa Brack is the wrong person - the only thing they have in common is they are both womem german and blonde!

I don't think so, Old Cynic. The photographs of the runner and the person who is something to do with Marketing for Samsung in Munich look like exactly the same person. Also, as several people's links show, it's not something Samsung are shy of doing either.

It was a shameful display of corporate greed and commercialism masquerading as everyone having a good time. A good opportunity for Samsung, Coke and Lloyds to drum up business and get their brand out there associated with something 'worthy'. LOCOG should be shot for even pretending it's anything other than a money-making exercise for the whores of big business. I feel sorry for the torchbearers caught up in it all - they and the public have been duped - yet again, by the government (both Lab and Tory). It turned my stomach that the torchbearers should have to run in between the sqwaking sponsor coaches, completely dwarfed.

Thanks Cliffite. Google translates it as "For Elizabeth, the Olympics are an incredible meeting of nations in the competition and friendship. Prior to wear the fabulous backdrop of the Olympic torch in London, and to share this experience with other sports fans, is for them an indescribable feeling."
