Weeds in Lewes

This year Lewes seems to have become overgrown with weeds growing all over the roads and pavements around the town. I didn't recall this in previous years so why is it so bad this year..? It surely doesn't look good to tourists and for locals its not very pretty either. Has the council cut back on weed control this year?

Rather than pursuing tax dodging corporations our tory government is making savage cuts. This is the kind of lowering quality of life we have to put up with.

Why do people often prefer bare patches of soil or cut and dying weeds to living plants that they have classified as weeds?

Abundance of weeds are due to the previous years plants not being cut before they seeded. One years seeds, seven years weeds, as gardeners say. The verges have only been cut once this year and even then not very well.

Despite the "Special expenses" craftily loaded onto our Council Tax for keeping Lewes looking prim and proper as a County Town should, the extra funding has no doubt found itself into someother coffers.
What you really need is another visit from the Olympic torch or Mrs Windsor to get it spruced up.
Keen cyclists will have noticed the disgraceful state of the cycle track (National route 90) between Lewes and Falmer which is getting impassable in many places due to wild flowers/weeds taking over.

Well Meldrew, doesn't that prove what a waste of money it was, if it's not used weeds will grow. Like the buses and lorrys that 'clip' the tress and halt their growth.
Remember grass doesn't grow on busy streets ?

along with pot holes it's just another example of how to live with an imposed austerity- apparently it's good for us and the spirit of the blitz will prevail as we all moan together but get on with our lives regardless. In the future, when we are old we'll look bakc an dreminiss about how we managed during the financial crisis and survived. I like weeds, they remind me of how the planet ought to look like without people, beacuse we are a huge problem for the environemnt-I feel post apocalipse novel coming on.

Don't we moan about this every year? It definitely seems to have got worse though. Maybe the fact that it's been pi**ing down all year has been good for weeds.

Just bite the bullet and get out there with a spade. I cleared my front, and the neighbours. 20 mins hard work, job done.
