I went to a wedding reception at Pelham house and it was lovely. The Real Eating company was also really nice for a function i went to. As you are marrying in registry office you could hire the hall by the grange and either have everyone inside if the weather is rainy or outside in grange gardens if its nice. In the hall you could set up a vintage style tea party which would keep costs lower also

The Register Office in the Grange is about to be refurbished and re-configured to use one of the large rooms downstairs. My daughter wanted to get married there this summer, but at the moment they can't tell us if Southover Grange will be up and running even by July. You can get married at the Castle, Town hall and Anne of Cleves House. Lewes House is now licensed for weddings and the Garden Room, leads out to the very pretty garden there.

The Grange is lovely in the summer, perfect place for a post ceremony drink and photos.
I went to a wedding a Pelham House (service, meal and evening do all in one place). It was pretty fantastic but not to everyone's budget.
If you're just looking for the meal and evening do there are plenty of places in Lewes that can cater for you.
Kings Head and Swan are right by the Grange (as is Pelham House) and I've heard good things about all three.
The Pelham Arms isn't too far away and I think they've rented out the pub for a wedding before.
We (the Elephant and Castle) have a lovely function room and can cater for anything you'd like.
The John Harvey Tavern have a nice upstairs room though the pub is due for a refit and a bit of change next week so I'm not sure what the deal will be with that.
The only other pub with sizeable function room is the Royal Oak.
As stated by another, The Real Eating Co is nice and down that end of town you've got the Snowdrop which is renown for it's food.
Think that covers most in Lewes (sorry if I've missed any out), you'll hear good and bad stories about all of them so just talk to the venue, go and see the place and work out what you want to spend.
There's also curry houses, Chinese restaurants, pizza places and out door spaces available too.
Hope you find your venue and all goes well.

Speak to Kathy in the Brewers Arms. They occasionally reserve the spacious back bar for private functions; and also do a very good buffet.

I'd second Southover Grange: if the weather's good there's a big paved area adjoining the very lovely gardens and it's an easy walk from public transport.

The other venue which hasn't had a mention is All Saints in Friars Walk. It's a good sized space, if a bit bland, but there's plenty of scope to decorate it, and it's well set up for outside caterers.

Have a look at Beechwood Hall. Eco friendly village hall just outside Lewes. Lovely new building with modern facilities. Panoramic view of the Downs as a backdrop and a lovely little children's playground on site. A marquee is often erected for wedding receptions as well. See the Hamsey Parish Website.

I had an idea over the weekend - the Council Chamber of Lewes Town Council is a really lovely room which is licenced for weddings, but also a splendid room in its own right. It's in the Town Hall by the junction of Fisher Street and the High Street, opposite the war memorial.

The day of your wedding, try to go unnoticed that the atmosphere is more relaxed and natural as possible, and for this to be noticed in the results.

Especially when you are to hire people from faraway places to come and work for your particular wedding then they might be demanding something in addition to saying all these reasons. Do not give an inch in that way as it should be talked about well ahead of time.
