Looking at the number of responses here I would say that clearly bonfire issues are still more important than most other things in this town. Fantastic.

I just wish they'd LISTEN TO THEMSELVES! They claim to be valiant supporters of bonfire and everything Lewes and yet they're mostly a bunch of seriously immature macho relics who haven't got over the fact that they weren't in the gang at school and don't actually get Lewes at all! Bonfire and everything associated with it is significant to the history of Lewes but it's also just about grown adults SETTING FIRE TO STUFF! That and getting drunk and squabbling like 5 yr olds. Seriously - Lewes could be the generally superb place it is without bonfire at all, and I for one am starting to think it would be a lot better off.

Utter rubbish Tipex. Utter rubbish. Firstly, I am neither immature nor macho. I have breasts and everything. Secondly, I don't need to be in a gang. Thirdly, what's wrong with setting fire to stuff anyway? Or getting drunk? And finally I've never squabbled with anyone in bonfire.
You sound like the kid who didn't like to see the other kids having fun....always with your nose in the air because you know better than everyone else. 'They just don't get Lewes' and you do? Just because you've read a book on Lewes, or you live here even, doesn't make you the authority on Lewes.
Some people are experiencing what it is to live here and carry on traditions.
