Having read this weeks article is the Sussex Depress regarding Waitrose' intention to expand into the now vacant Wenban Smith (or Parsons as i still call it) yard, i wander if the local NIMBY brigade are going to be as vociferous as they are with opposing Tesco's expansion ?

Well said Landporter, you are of course 100% correct, there won't be as much controversy related to the Waitrose expansion, there are after all the wealthy persons choice of supermarket, and some might say the best of a bad bunch, but we shouldn't forget that they are still a supermarket, and despite having better policies related to employment and produce sourcing, they still belong to the same brigade and some might question if this type of approach to business is on the whole ethical or sustainable, but I guess the fact remains that they at least seem to care about sustainability and fair trade with local partners, which a great deal more than you can say for TESCO, in fact TESCO are infamous for running small local business out of business all over the country in order to drive the price and the produce sourcing in the direction they want it to go, ie. vast and cheap to exagerate their own profit margins as much as possible, and althout all supermarkets have the potential to go down the same road TESCO are by far the worst offender.

Quite right Mystic - the truth is anyone who has to go shopping is lower class. It goes without saying.
