Not sure what appended means but a driver hit the accelerator this morning and ploughed into the exit of Waitrose. Thankfully no one hurt although the store's currently closed. I think customers are being directed to Aldi...

Always thought it was yer local authentic county set in the sticks who shop in Waitrose. You know the type, yummy mummy driving in from a big house near Barcombe in a 4x4....

What is it with some of the above posters? Why the hate/sarcasm re. people who shop at Waitrose? It is a perfectly normal supermarket. I shop there; and I only fill half of your criteria 'Observer'.

I have nothing against people who want to spend their money in Waitrose. It is quite eye wateringly expensive though.

(They sell quinoa in Aldi too, you know.)

Glad no one was hurt, but with all that glass it could have been a very different story if several customers and staff had been there at the time.

@ Observer. the reason people shop at waitrose is because of the quality of the bread , fresh fish , the meats & fruit& veg, yes they are more expensive , but we all have a choice, think you got a serious attitude problem and a massive chip on your shoulder regarding the different people that shop there .

Sorry, that was more of a reaction to a certain sort of self-consciously local Lewesian, who thinks that there are two types of people in the town (i) hardcore working class, ancestors traced back to William de Warenne's era and (ii) DFL blow-ins who are somehow all
(a) all loaded thanks to London-based property wealth - never mind the fact that most thirty- and fortysomething movers to Lewes were probably renting in London or if they owned had missed out on the huge increase in prices and are probably saddled with huge mortgages
(b) simultaneously both sandle-wearing, quinoa-munching hippies and Barbour-wearing 4x4 drivers
Life and Lewes are really quite a lot more than that. Of course all types of people shop in Waitrose, as do I - the quality is so much higher (and it's not as expensive as you think if you don't get carried away).
