Why do you have to live in the right parts of Lewes and go to the right school to be respected. I have up until recently lived in Lewes all of my life. I lived down Landport and went to Wallands school and I have even been in the Cliffe Bonfire for almost all my life. So that must mean I am total scum. I know longer live in lewes and apart from bonfire don't miss it one bit.
My perents worked hard all there lives to ensure we lived comfortably, and most of the nieghbours we knew also worked hard.
So why is it, if you didnt live in Nevill, Malling or the town centre, Drive a four wheel drive and worked in london your not worth a w**k.
why dont you give the lower class a break!

CBS member, you are not scum, I expect most people in the areas you are talking about aren't even from Lewes. Leave Lewes to Lewesians!! I disagree on the 4-wheel drive front though.

That superior middle class left wing atitude exists everywhere not just Lewes, they control the media, enjoy spending other peoples money, and spout politically correct nonsense!
There all for multi cultural Blairs cool Britannia, they themselves wouldnt want to live anywhere where it exists, so they live in areas where the house prices are to high for ethnics!

Lewes is no different to any other affluent town...they are the have nots (Landport, New Malling, parts of Winterbourne), the have a little bit (Old Malling, Nevill, some parts of the Wallands) and the have LOADS A MONEY (Brighton Road, Most of Wallands, town areas, Cuilfail).

That's not quite true Saddo... I live in a town area (New Road), but it is a very little house, and me and my bloke both have to work hard and travel far to pay for it. I wouldn't say we have loadsamoney. Maybe we're just suckers. But one of the great things about Lewes is that I find it cheap to entertain myself in - a few pints in a local pub, a picnic on the grange, mates' gigs, walks on the downs etc... it's cheaper to have fun than somewhere like Brighton or London so that's definitely a good thing.

These generalisms are a waste of time. Jay is obviously full of anger about something, takes it out on speculation about people. You don't know what brings people to live in certain places. I live in the centre of town but am by no means affluent - I bought a wreck and did it up because I'm fairly handy at that sort of thing.
And anyone who thinks the middle class lefties control the media etc are sorely mistaken. They are merely the foot soldiers.

I agree with St Johner. I lived in the town centre, and now on the Nevill Estate, and I am certainly not affluent, its just that I bought my house when the prices were more reasonable and did all the renovation work myself. If Jay is so anti Lewes and Lewesians, then why is he/she bothering to look at, let alone join in, a forum specifically aimed at Lewes people ?. I have only recently discovered this forum and find a lot of the threads interesting and informative, but have to say there appears to be a lot of people out there who only seem able to contribute by making unnecessary and unfounded negative comments about everything.
