I'm disgusted at the state the pavements have been left in. All the slabs that have been put in are broken in at least three places.
They are also not laid flat so are a trip hazard. Does the council not check their work ? They also have no idea what a broom is ! I've had to clear sand and gravel off the pavement twice that they've left behind. Not good enough

Most of the pavements were broken already and this has just made them even worse. The likelihood of paving being properly maintained by the council outside of the town centre are pretty much zero so they'd do much better to tarmac them. Let's hope that the council gets a good handout and can sort them out properly - if it's left to the contractors it'll never be right.

So far they've only done the outskirts, although I note that they haven't uprooted the valuable vintage paving bricks around the Swan.

It'll be interesting to see what happens when they do get into town. Will the council let them get away with cultural vandalism on the same scale?

The men doing the actual work of laying the line have worked so hard ( and they swept up) first thing in the morning right up to 7.30 in the evening. It is the english men that come the following day to fill in the holes with tarmac that are rude, shouting and making the mess, not the other men who have been working incredibly hard.

To be fair you knew what to expect from comments from other estates and there does need to be progress with communications cable has always been moaned about do you not remember when brighton was first done .
Cable doesn't have the privilege of the old days of BT .
If you do find a serious trip hazard go and speak to one of them , most of the workers I found were polite and very helpful .there's no point moaning once they have moved on and if they are nearby point out the issue and maybe offer a cold drink or cup of tea etc .
They are doing the job which there is a need for else they wouldn't come to a small town like lewes.

@'living in malling'. What are you implying by 'it is the English men that come the following day'? That the hole diggers are foriegn and are doing a better job & work harder?

They did a good job up in Nevill - a temporary tarmac covering while the ground settled, then a proper tarmac covering, then jet-blasted the pavements to clean all the cr*p off, then came back after a few weeks and made good any bits that had cracked/weren't right. Never saw any sweary English guys but the (Polish?) workers that did most of it were polite and bloody hard-working...
