We have enough riff raff in Lewes without encouraging more with Mc Donald's and the likes. Lewes is fine the way it is. Only a train or car ride away for rubbish food for those who want it!

Do people not realize or understand how fortunate we are to live in Lewes? No horrible food outlets? Mind you, I do wonder how the two kebabs shops got passed! You only have to look at the weekends to see what sort of rubbish these outlets encourage! NO, leave Lewes alone. If you want what Lewes does not have,go further afield.

It's not just the kebab shops. Have you seen the rubbish scattered around the skate park at Malling? It's disgusting why can't people just use the bins provided. Someone has to clean up the mess on a daily basis. Shame on you skaters,
Boarders and parents.
On 13 Jun 2011 at 5:29pm Ed Can Do wrote:
I agree with both Dave and observer, the state of those horrible kebab places and the skate park is disgusting and there is no place for such things in a place like Lewes. I'd add to that list the horrific mess caused by children up and down Mountfield Road every day and the thick clouds of noxious fumes produced by people driving their cars to and from the primary schools every day has dramatically reduced the quality of air in what would otherwise be a pristine example of a Sussex town. In addition I am outraged at the number of young to middle-aged ladies one sees pushing prams around town all day and cluttering up Caffe Nero and Costa with their offspring. Shouldn't these people have jobs or something?
I think the answer is clear. We should close the kebab shops with immediate effect, demolish the skate park and put in a couple of benches instead then shut all the schools and send the kids to places better suited to cope with young people like Brighton, stipulating that they must travel by train, although ideally they should be made to walk to Falmer station to catch it as otherwise they'd get underfoot during the communter rush at Lewes station. Once that's all in place we can impose a daylight curfew for anyone with a small child and no job to get them off the streets and Lewes might start to look like the wonderful place we all know it is once again.

I meant rubbish as in riff raff DAVE.Punch ups, police etc. I take your point though.Yes I have seen the morning clear-ups by the skate park. Disgusting.Makes you wonder what the homes of these people are like. Not just the river encouraging the rats!

You mostly seem to be bashing the youngsters of this town. Tell me what there is to do in Lewes that is specifically for them? As a parent myself, though mine are well into their adulthood now I would be worried at the lack of facilities for them.
As for getting a job, look at the real world at the moment.

I'm sure they've all got computers, Play Stations etc at home to keep them occupied. And homework of course.
When I was at school, there were only 3 tv channels, video recorders, DVDs and PCs hadn't been invented, nor had the BMX or the skate board. Where I lived there were three small youth clubs for a population more than double the size of Lewes. We didn't find it necessary to go around trashing the place.

I work near a McDonalds, and I regularly pass another one. I don't frequent these places, but I can say that neither are surrounded by the mountains of rubbish that I have been reading about above. Some people drop rubbish, some don't. Eating a McDonalds does not instantly turn you into someone that does. In my younger days, before the kebab shops opened, the favoured hot food on the way home from the pub was the chinese next to the Lansdown. In those days you would see discarded foil containers, and the remains of peoples meals scattered in the street. It is a problem that has always been there, so blaming the kebab shops, or assuming that a McDonalds would attract litter droppers any more than already exist, is a bit on the blinkered side. There has always been an element of kids (and adults) that have dropped litter and generally trashed things for everyone else, and I guess there always will be, but that is down to the individuals concerned and not where they buy their food or what youth club they may or may not go to.

Seems their is a hell of a lot of snobs in this town, no chain stores, no McDonalds, no skateboarding. grow up the lot of you, we're not all the same in what we want in town.
Also Ed Can do, so you think all the mothers outside costa and Nero should get a job? It wasn't so long ago on this forum that certain people were saying that no good mother should have to work, they should be looking after their kids instead!
Oh and Lewes IS getting a McDonalds!
