A very good description. But it did not mention those who wish to promote cycling in this lovely flat town, or the lively night life (other than Nov. 5th).

This reads more like a guide to Lewes written by someone who doesn't know Lewes but thinks they do from a couple of cynical visits. Some small rings of truth but on the whole not really representative of Lewes as most people will know it.

Quite correct,Albert,if they had visited Lewes they would have noticed dear Mrs Twine seated cross legged in her celery infested, hessian lined grotto in Sustainable St.They would surely have bought some of her neo rustic yogurt and museli couture creations or recycled compost sandals. This leads me to wonder if the council's new kitchen waste recycling initiative has put a sizable dent in her income and perhaps driven her from her grotto.

Oh dear, Albert, you really have missed the point completely haven't you!
As it says at the top of the page "For those without comedic tastes, the so-called experts at Wikipedia have an article about Lewes". Suggest you look at that one.

Well no, I haven't. Lewes has much to satirise and they've missed the mark. The Black Shadow satirises Lewes better in a single paragraph. Comedy generally relies on taking something true and stretching it, or taking a premise and delivering an unexpected conclusion. Their Lewes one misses the mark because it isn't close enough to the truth or outlandish enough in the exaggeration to be funny. If you weren't from Lewes or had never visited you'd probably find it didn't even raise a smirk. Their Worthing one is much better as an example of comedy writing.

I disagree Albert. You say yourself that comedy generally relies on taking something true and stretching it. If you don't know the truth, then how can you appreciate the comedy or satire. For instance, if you did not know Lewes, and had not had the benefit of reading previous threads on this forum, then Black Shadow's comments about Mrs Twine would be completely lost on you. It would appear that your argument works against you!
