For over a year now, the Trevor Arms in Glynde has been shut, Why? and more importantly, what is going on? Does anyone here know?

I believe it is owned by Glynde Estates (like most of the village). When Harvey's gave up the lease, the new leaseholders could not agree with the estate who was responsible for the upkeep/maintenance that was needed. As such it has just been left to rot. I think that is what I've read on here/Facebook etc anyway....

"A couple of years after that Harvey's, the Lewes brewery, gave up the lease of the pub and Hayley Bayes and Richard Wormald took over the Trevor Arms as a free house. Tragically, after extensive alterations to the fabric of the pub, and a near total change of their staff, the pub closed in January 2017." on the Glynde page.

Sounds like rich rentiers screwing over the village.

There is now a pre application planning in from The Restaurant Group PLC (Franky and Benny, Garfunkels etc) for large extensions to the pub and a car park of over 100 places in the quarry opposite. The estate is gradually killing the village and this will cement the death in my opinion.

It will be an addition to the Brunning and Price chain, not a total disaster

Brunning is wholly owned by the ftse250 company restaurant group (whose shares have been plummeting for the last few years). The size of the car park suggests it won't be a cozy boozer any more.

of course some change is good, but in my experience when ftse companies (eg Greene King) get involved with local things it is invariably bad.

The place was awful and the food not good.
Will be a boon to the village if someone gets hold of it and turn it into a decent eatery/watering hole.
So much opportunity there but will need a great deal of investment and that's where it could stumble and fail.

This is great news for walkers, cyclists and hopefully locals too. As long as they serve Harveys..

Any pub though, is better than no pub.

The Plans show pretty much doubling the pub in size... and the car park opposite show 100+ spaces!!! WHAT THE, why so big? FTSE companies ruin this world... can a petition work against planning proposals?
