Trade Parking Permits

Has anyone noticed how many Trade Permits are being used by the workmen at the Baxters Site. Walk along Friars Walk, Lansdown Place and Southover Road and almost every other car has a Trade Permit in the window - they are even allowed to park in Residents bays. I don't know how much a Trade Permit costs for the day but surely they should be encouraged to park in the under-used Pinwell Lane car park for £3 a day. It is not as if they will be returning to their cars regularly to get tools etc or moving around the town to do jobs. I do not see why they are given these Permits when other workers in the town are expected to pay the full price of parking.

Trade permits aren't just dished out. You have to prove that you are a trader and register at the parking shop. They cost £3.50 a day and allow you to park in any residents or dual bay. Sometimes it's cheaper to use a pay and display, especially on the outskirts of town. Any tradesman will tell you that the parking scheme is a pain in the a**e, so don't complain that these guys are legitimately parking. It's the councils fault, not theirs.
On a slightly different note, I did a large job some time ago that involved many different trades and went on for many months. Client ended up spending THREE GRAND on permits. Ouch.

I have heard from a reliable source ( I think ), that somewhere in devon they were short of parking attendants so they drafted out some of the Lewes lot and put them up in 5 star hotels. So next time you get a parking ticket at least you know its being well spent.
