Apparently the Financial Times has an article which reveals that the firm in charge of the rescue deal for Thomas Cook has $250 million in credit default swaps betting it will fail. That doesn't sound very ethical to me,not surprising.

Why shouldn't be post that here blatant? Start your own Lewes based post and ignore this one. It clearly said what it was about on the subject and Tom as a regular contributor and Lewes resident wants to say that. It is just a negative put down and will almost certainly affect Tom psychologically! I never thought I'd say it Tom but I agree with you and am glad you brought it to my attention as long as it is true.

A very Lewes issue since we, as taxpayers will be helping to bail them out.

There must be some reason why they have to hire planes and crews from Malaysia at huge expense to repatriate Thomas Cook passengers home from their holidays, when there are perfectly good Thomas Cook planes and crews sitting at Manchester airport with nothing to do. Anyone know what it is?.

Yes Fairmeadow, unfortunately, the vast majority of Thomas Cooks aircraft were leased, (all but 3 I think) so once the company ceased trading they defaulted on the payments and the planes will have been repossessed. The leasing company won't have pilots, cabin crew etc to hand, so it will have been easier to lease an entire aircraft and crew. I hope this helps.
