The incinerator

Does anyone else think the incinerator is much bigger than they thought it was going to be?
The first time I saw it from the Beddingham road, the two slabs of concrete that seem to be the ends were so big, I thought they were building a huge flyover. They looked like the bits that hold up enormous motorway bridges. Now they're up, you can see the thing from a long way back up the C7, and it really does dominate the view as you look down the valley. And the chimneys aren't even up yet.
I thought the main structure was going to be fairly low.
I didn't want the thing in the first place, I want it even less now I can see how big it is. Maybe some of the people who blew up parking meters might turn their hands to a larger target......

Well, it hides Newhaven if you're coming down the C7 or walking along the Ouse, so it can't be so bad.

Seriously though, most planners insist on verified 3D images for controversial sites these days. Basically you can use CAD software and GPS to prove that the image is accurate (in a way that you couldn't with good old watercolours years ago). Wonder if LDC / ESCC checked?

It's huge, it's ugly and it's most likely dangerous to health.
But never mind all that... the important thing is that it can't be seen from Hastings - St Helens & Silverhill which I understand is in some way connected to Councillor Matthew Lock.
He's the guy that dismissed the views of 11,000 of the electorate most of which lived near it.

It is a huge eyesore and can ruins the views down the valley towards the coast. They should've built it at Shoreham Harbour or Shoreham Cement Works!

Should have built it in Hastings... on the A21 at Silverhill.

And that's not all, the site is next to an underused (freight) railway line and a navigable river and the waste is going to be trucked in by road......

That's not all folks - the bottom ash product of incineration = 6% of the reusable, recycleable, repairable imput is more toxic than nuclear waste and has to go overland to secrect disposal sites to be buried in U.K. soil in various locations. Naturally this has been tendered out by the company building the incinerator so if there are any accidents or leaks they won't be responsible for them, at present this will be transported by road due to the building's location. They are unlikely to be able to transport via the rail network and through the Marine station in the harbour, but this may change depending on how much they are prepared to pay network rail. The ironic thing is that due to the prevailing wind the fallout which escapes the fine filters and is most dangerous to the soil and our health will fall to earth around about where the short sighted councillors who voted for it live.
