Visited the Depot yesterday for the first time to see the new Churchill film. Brilliant film and comfortable seats but sadly, that is the only positive in this experience. Lunch was poor - very little choice, nothing much left and very slow. But, the main grievance was with the ticket desk. One of our party of 5 could not come so on hearing that the afternoon showing was sold out, we offered our spare ticket to anyone that may want it. We enquired if we would get a refund if someone wanted it but were told that we would not! A very nice lady came and sat in our spare seat and we were very happy that our ticket had been put to good use - until she told us that she was made to pay a further £6 - so the Depot took double money (£12) for one seat with no offer of either a refund to ourselves or a free ticket to the lady. We all thought that was appalling - yes it is only £6 we are talking about, but it is the principle. Poor show for the Depot in our opinion and we will be back to the Picture House in Uckfield from now on.

We went to see The Darkest Hour at Uckfield Picture House last night, followed by a fantastic meal at Forno Antico. Whilst we also enjoyed comfortable seats, like the depot, we received, as always, great service from the Picture house without having to endure the smug incompetence of the Depot’s badly trained and arrogant staff.

I have always found the depot's staff to be very friendly. There are occasional blips with the food and drink side of things, but it's great for coffee and cake. It's still less than a year old so imagine it's still ironing a few things out - but overall it's a good addition. Uckfield is great too - it doesn't have to be an either/or.

I have never been to the Depot but overheard a conversation on a train today. One of them had been to see The Darkest Hour yesterday and was gushing in their praise, after a while, the other person said "and what about the film, was that good too?

Went to see flicker and pulse on Tuesday. First rate experience as always. Can’t believe how lucky we are to have this inspirational place in Lewes. It was full too, brilliant for a small film on a Tuesday night. I suspect the Uckfield trolls are looking for any excuse to criticise, however minor.

I adore the Depot, a lovely space and so vibrant! One could almost imagine oneself being in London for the night!

I'm surprised that the Picture House hasn't sacked all their staff and aren't using "volunteers" to slash their wage bill, letting them watch a free film now and then. Then again, maybe all firms should try it. It could be the answer to the mimium wage !! Shouldn't be allowed eh ?

Wasn't impressed by food at the Depot. But it is a cinema and the films and seats are good. They should have reimbursed your ticket if they resold it. Did you speak to the manager ?

I don’t recognise your story about not getting a refund.
I was unable to go to three shows within the last few months, two of which were expensive opera films, and got a refund each time.
Food has only once ( out of perhaps 15 times ) been bad.
And the choice of films, the quality of sound and the comfort of the searing are outstanding.
My only beef is with the little studio, where half the seats are too close to the screen.
But all in all, an exceptional place.
Uckfield is ok - but only If you have a car. And anyway, i love to be able to walk to the cinema.

I'm with marien. Nothing but praise for the Depot. Spacious and comfortable screens, light and airy cafe and really helpful staff and volunteers. We're getting new release big budget films directly they come out as well as a great selection of art films. It's much more than a town the size of Lewes and its catchment would warrant elsewhere.

The Depot has the best cinema seating of anywhere I've been - lots of leg room and no heads blocking the view. The programming is also great, striking the right balance between commercial hits, quirky indie films and old classics. We are very lucky to have it. I agree about some of the staff issues - I used to be a retail manager and have noticed a number of things that could be improved. The service is generally friendly, but just needs a bit more of a sense of urgency.

I love the depot and congratulate Carmen on such a fantastic and valuable project for the town.
The only complaint I have is that the meals are small portions and some food is over priced.

The Depot is just stunning. I soon became a member & visit every week. Only eaten there once, but food was fab & reasonably priced. Staff are great.
Downsides at present are the way the bar / restaurant side is organised; at busy times service is poor simply due to the way it is set up. Beer range is oddly poor with no lager / Guinness & at present, no beer by Harveys!
Ticketing can be muddled depending on staff - but I always choose my seat on line - dead easy, just show your phone as you go in.
Biggest problem is the toilets, particularly the gents - far, far too small & whoever designed the layout wants shooting.
Teething troubles & partly a victim of it's own success, but something for Lewes to be really proud of.
