Support Local Businesses - Shop at Tesco

Tesco executive director Lucy Neville-Rolfe said: Customers want to know where their food is from and they want to support local businesses. Last summer we sold 5,400 packs of local watercress every week in Hampshire stores almost twice the national sales figure. She added: Our aim is to ensure that locally sourced produce becomes part of our mainstream offer to all our customers.

One thing i'd like to see from large supermarkets is "not quite perfect" fruit and veg being sold eg any fruit that is not the right shape, size or colour is usually not accepted by supermarkets and thrown away.....at a massive loss to our farmers.

SHS, doesn't your quote state the obvious?
Of course patriotic Hampshire folk are going to purchase more Hampshire-grown watercress than patriotic Sussex/Suffolk/Northumberland/Cheshire/Etc folk.
I still hate Tesco's and refuse to shop there

Amused - yes, well it is a Tesco press release so what do you expect? I suspect their 'local sourcing & promotion' is just a few label changes as they try to stay ahead of the latest trends.

A bit of spin from Tesco. However if supermarkets source more local produce that cannot be a bad thing. However Tesco store managers seem to be powerless to implement changes to suit their local needs and suppliers, despite being reponsible for very high turnover stores.
I agree with Spongy about misshapen fruit and veg. When I cook I could not give a monkey's about the aesthetics of the ingredients. If this means cheaper food and less wastage this win win solution.

Correction Mog - you will NEVER get a bit of me from Tesco's!
