Just received a News Sheet from Bonny's Wood that must of arrived between 3.00pm & 6.00pm today.
It say's that they are to be 'Removing a damaged tree at the top of Castle Lane this Sunday and that they will have to close the Road as a Dirty Big Crane will be needed to facilitate this. Any particular concerns please do not hesitate to contact us'.
Has a tree been blown over in the wind?
Or is it
A bit short notice to put a nonsensical flyer through the door just a day before the event!
If I or anyone else should want to complain its a bit difficult, Its happening this Sunday Morning! I can't even deduce which particular tree they are talking about. Am I to wake on Sunday morning to a huge crane on my doorstep with ropes bound to the top of a 100ft tree & tugging with all its might?
I'd of thought there were regulations to govern this or are they so secretive that they deem a bit of scrap paper posted late Friday afternoon when the event is to happen on Sunday is sufficient enough notice? Just pull up all the trees why don't you!

I could offer you my services Jack. I have 24ft of hardened security chain that you could use to chain yourself to the tree?
Also I could offer my services too? I might manage to get hold of Beakie the Blind Bat and The Rook for you?

And Jack, I've been struggling to control the pedant in me, but I can't: it's "could HAVE". "Could OF" is meaningless.

I'm a regular grammar devient don't you know.
I thank you for your link, but are you sure its the right planning application? The flyer or leaflet that I received from Bonny's Wood said that it would take a 'Crane to Remove the Tree' and the Road will be closed & obstructed until the Tree has been cleared.
That sounds to me like the whole Tree is going not just a branch or two. I wouldn't have posted my query on here if Bonny's Wood had been a bit more forthcoming with the relevant information.
It wouldn't have been quite the same problem if it were someones private garden and he/she wanted to prune the tree.
I think its the perceived openness that is at fault.
It would only take a little space to have put a link to the relevant planning proposal on their flyer.
I suspect that most of this is meaningless to you but I like to have trees in my view even if some don't.

Better than no notice at all ! Why don't you ring and discuss it with them instead of second guessing and moaning here , maybe it's just happened in this high wind , maybe they went to all the trouble of printing and posting these notices just to p1ss you off , if it needs to be done , then sunday may be better than 8am Monday , or lets just wait and see who's house it falls on , I'm guessing it won't be yours as that would give you something to really moan about ,

Jack, that's the only application for New Rd/Castle Lane/Castle Gate I can find. You can fell a tree in a Conservation Area without an approved aplication only if it's diseased or unsafe. The flyer says "damaged" you say, so perhaps it's unsafe and a matter of urgency. I'll take a walk by today and have a look.

A big old sycamore on the north side of Castle Lane has broken off near its base, toppled across the lane, and is now resting against Castle Lodge Cottage. Castle Lane is closed, and the cottage has been damaged.

Thanks for clearing this conundrum up for us indomitable Xplorer1.
I too didn't see the damaged tree yesterday and Castle Lane seemed to be clear. I feel very sorry for the occupants of Castle Lodge Cottage. I hope the damage to the Cottage was only slight and negligible. I hope that the owners are going to reprimand the wood to their fire. Anyhow good work Xplorer1.

I walked past it the other day and I imagine the owners of that house are keen to get it off their roof ebfore the next gale hits town. must have been pretty rotten to break off like that.
