Am i alone at groaning at all these anti bonfire comments? Few come out directly and call for it to be banned, middle class liberals not wanting to be seen as undemocratic! So we get references as to how it effects their pussy or pooch, or the level of noise! We have traffic noise 365 days a year, havent you noticed?
There is and has been for sometime an effort by the politically correct to replace bonfire night with the pagan Americanised Halloween!"Trick or treat" aka handover money or the car gets scratched! Lets support our own festivals and traditions!

My,my Jonny Double Standards. You're concerned about hooligans blighting Lewes once a year, but Falmer can have them every other week!

Toothy stick to subjects that you know something about (although i accept it will be a small list).
You will get far more arrests on bonfire night in Lewes than you will at a Brighton game at Falmer.

Err, no, they cannot be directly compared.
Look at the figures. Lewes, 50k + people. B&HA, 10k on a good day? (Alright, I'm using Withdean here as the only available comparison) Comparative arrest figures show which to be the 'safer' event from a collar felt point of view.
Lewes only records a handful of arrests at most each year (2001 or 02 I think shows 1 arrest) which when you consider the environment, the number of people and the atmosphere, is quite impressive. For the record, the majority of arrests are from the crowd, not those processing.
I have no problem at all with your dislike of the event, it would be unhealthy and rather boring if everyone liked the same things, such as Bonfire, but I do detest propping up arguments with blatantly wrong statistics.
For the record, I'm against Falmer, but only as I believe that there are more suitable sites elsewhere in the city, which would get away from any potential wrangles with LDC.
