Just wondering what the traffic situation is now that Station Street bridge is closed to traffic. Is there gridlock?

No it's not too bad. Slight jam if someone parks on detour road but it is generally working well.

I'd second that. I'd been dreading it, but actually not having to drive past the hair-raising parking cabs/jay walking pedestrians/impatient drivers at the station is welcome, and the one way system works pretty well too. (There were a couple of idiots on Saturday outside the GP surgery who'd been ticketed - I guessed they were unobservant football fans)

Again, not found it too bad at all in the area.

From listening to local radio last week it appears that many motorists are not using the official diversions; but choosing to gridlock Winterbourne Hollow and the Prison crossroads instead.
The footy traffic was probably not causing too many problems. But it is lucrative for the blue meanies to venture out after hours, with so many cars to ticket!

The football parking (not traffic) certainly was causing problems on Saturday afternoon because I was stuck in the single file traffic trying to negotiate it on Southover St where it meets Station St. There were three cars parked in the suspended bays nearest the bridge causing chaos.

I haven't actually noticed a huge increase in traffic up Winterbourne Hollow either. The impact is nowhere near as nightmarish as when they closed Station St a few months ago, thankfully.

It certainly makes dropping off and picking up Mr C-T at the station a lot easier, and I haven't noticed it being a lot worse anywhere else.

Heard yesterday that one of the workmen involved in the bridge works had commented that the work was already looking far more difficult/complicated than expected, and that the work may well run for longer than planned/expected.
I didn't speak to the workmen/engineer myself, so it could all be hearsay...

The traffic hasn't been bad, but as a resident in the area who pays a large sum for a parking permit having a large chunk of parking taken away is not ideal..
