Traffic chaos again today. Why has ESCC decided to close Station Street for five weeks without providing a suitable alternative route. Surely they could have suspended parking and used St Andrews Lane instead. Also, why is it that the parking wardens (who where sold to us as a anti-congestion measure) are never about in the High Street to move on all the car's, lorry's and van's parked illegally, adding to this traffic chaos?

Can any of you wise and wonderful people tell me where I can complain about this - I am sleep deprived and annoyed. I live on St Nic's lane. The traffic starts at 5am and continues till well after 10/11pm. I have to be up at 6.20am to go to work. There are car's, taxis, vans and lorries using the lane at stupid speeds. I came home the other night and the street was gridlocked - 4 cars going up the hill a lorry trying to come down. The obvious solution would be to close the lane to traffic coming up the hill. I'm amazed that no one considered a huge influx of traffic coming up St Nic's lane and the effect it would have on residents. Or maybe they didn't care. Either way, I'm fed up, tired and I want someone to know it!

What I really miss from these posts is the correct use of the apostrophe. If you don't know what it's for then don't use it.

I would imagine that ESCC's highways department are the people to talk to, at least initially. Given how little interest the various councils took in ensuring a fire engine big enough to rescue people from the top floor of the Pantsworks could fit down St Nick's Lane before they let the developers build the hideous thing though I suspect they will file any complaints about too much traffic down there in the round filing cabinet.

You ain't seen nothing yet.
If the improvements like a Zebra crossing on Station Road (outside the train station) go ahead next year they will dwarf the disruption on Station Street.
Ultimately if you want improved walkways. streetscape, roads etc then you have to accept disruption for a few weeks (although 5 seems excessive to me).
Lewes residents generally aren't keen on change but the simple fact is: Short-term pain = Long-term gain!

If you lend someone £20 and don't see them again it was probably worth it.
