They are both good chippys. South Street has the advantage of more choice readily available; although Fisher street will cook the less popular items to order.

There isn't a decent chippy in lewes. Nearest good one is lewes road Brighton

On the 3 occasions that I have been to the one in Ringmer, the people serving (I think the owners) have been unfriendly. Nice chips though!

The best chips that I have had in recent times were from the takeaway counter of the Palace Pier restaurant.

I totally agree with you Rookie. They are the best by miles.

Best by miles? They must be really good: drive into Brighton, incur the wrath of the Green council, pay probably more than the meal to park? Your miles would be better spent going to Uckfield or Newhaven!

They just feel they have o make the best chips. It must be pier pressure

Thick layer of stodgy, white, uncooked batter next to the fish last few times I went to South St. It's a shame because it used to be good. Now I get some fresh fish from the Riverside and get chips from the chinese by the Black Horse ,very good.

That'll more likely be too much flour on too wet a piece of fish, not uncooked batter. Equally unpleasant.
Great fish and chips is a real art, requiring about ten critical elements to be correctly executed.

For a real chippy try Osborns in Seaford- great service, great prices, delicious product I have yet to find anywhere in Lewes or Brighton that matches them, and no I am no relation just a fan! (Although Trawlers is pretty good too)

The chippy at Woodingdean - excellent.

I went to the chippy at Woodingdean just a few weeks ago and it was truly awful. I have recently been to Buddies down on Brighton seafront. That was pretty poor too. I will be giving both a wide berth for a while. Fillets, along Lewes Road, has been pretty good on the two occasions I have been in there in recent weeks. A bit expensive though.
