Some pay... Some don't...

Last month, the Lead Member for Transport and Environment approved a report recommending increases to some permit and pay and display charges in Lewes in order to offset the additional costs incurred as a result of a criminal campaign of vandalism to parking machines throughout Lewes.
While the report focused on on-street parking, it also indicated what equivalent increases might be introduced at County Hall.... (Oh NO! shock horror)
HOWEVER,
The Chief Officers Management Team (COMT) does not plan to increase charges at County Hall for the foreseeable future and would only do so following consultation with staff (it's gonna be a cold day in hell when they voluntarily vote to increase parking charges!).
For those staff for whom bus travel is an option, half price fares to and from County Hall are available.
The discount is being funded from the surplus from ticket machines in car parks at County Hall, which has always been ring-fenced to support staff travel incentives.
Long Live Democracy.

ps. Remember colleagues, there's one rule for some and another rule for others and no matter what, we simply MUST look after ourselves.

Blooming typical for East Sussex County Council to look after themselves.
Another laugh was their Head of Transport being honoured in the New Year list - what a great service the introduction of NCP has made to the town!!!

Push push push! Why not pass this to the Sussex Express? They must really think we're stupid to believe all this crap about the increases being due to the vandalism.

Must admit my initial reaction to the email was somewhere between shocked and disgusted. I have re-read the article several times and my view hasn't changed.
It seems that the employees at County Hall have kicked up a stink via their intra net and the upper echelon have pacified (or clarified the situation to use their words) them at the local folks expense.
It even reminds staff that "Free parking is still available on-street within a 10 minute walk of County Hall."
I am considering passing it on to the Sussex Express... or maybe Norman Baker?
In truth I'm not sure what to do... cos I don't live in Lewes anymore!

I would be very grateful if you would pass this e-mail to the Sussex Express, and also to lewesmatters websirte so that they can print it out in full for all of us. The scheme is not supposed to discriminate against residents, in favour of ESCC employees. Does anyone know where the parking meters they have removed (and replaced) are going to instead? and why are they spending our money on replacing machines that heve never been damaged, like the on ein Albion St (hasn't worked for a month) This is surely incompetent.

...and is an astonishing read. We seem to be subsidising a half price bus scheme, and cheap parking for ESCC who do not contribute the same as us to our scheme, though they worsen the roads by encouragng staff to use residential spaces.
I doubt that this is legal.

Not sure about the legalities but it certainly seems morally corrupt.
A few people blew up some parking meters so let's make EVERYONE pay more to compensate... while simultaneously distancing ESCC employees and feathering their nests with the profits? gleaned from the County Hall car park!
All very fair...

ESCC employees are clearly making personal financial gain from the fact that ESCC have given themselves benefits, that others have not. They have absolutely no evidence whatsoever that the parking meters have not been blown up by their own staff, and they cannot assume it is a Lewes resident. there is no reason whatsoever to discriminate between the two. If they need to be paid for, we should all be paying equally. However we seem to be paying to replace undamaged parking meters, why is that? It is all very bizarre.
