I really don`t see what this has got to do with anything Observer.we don`t want any accurate facts about how much the EU actually costs, as we a desperately whipping up up an atmosphere of ill informed anti EU hysteria and your posting really does n`t help us to do this in any way, so we would be grateful if you would just sling your foreigner loving hook ASAP.OK?

Interesting article . Our net contribution in 2015 was £8.5bn ( see full fact web site). Bteween 2010 and 2015 it averaged about £6bn pa. This was a high level caused by the problems in the poorer parts of the EU which makes sense because the reason we pay in more than we get out is that the EU operates an imperfect regional policy essentially.
To put this in context UK GDP is about £2 trillion and last year public spending about £750bn
If you want to replace the impoverished tarrif world of the 60s and 70s with a prosperous free trading world ,as we have done ( with more work to do) you must have common standards , Labour rights et al to prevent the free riding UKIP think is possible ( It is not ). You must also have a regional policy to assist areas who suffer unreasonably in a transition period .
In a nut shell youi cannot have Western civilisation without Western CIVILISATION. You might just as well talk about how much we would save by abandoning our education budget.
