Has anyone else noticed that there seems to be some sort of amnesty on smoking on Lewes station?
I saw two lads opening smoking on the platform on Saturday afternoon, with two guards in hi-vis totally oblivious.
The same this morning. It's just unacceptable....and of course totally illegal. Any by the way, they were disgusting "real" cigarettes, not these stupid ethings.
What's the solution - phone the Police?

I smoke. It is a disgusting habit. I admit this and would not turn back the law.
But the above post is just factually incorrect. The Smoking Laws enacted in 2006 prohibited smoking in enclosed work spaces because of the risk of passive smoking.
The definition of a work space meant more than two surrounding walls or a work vehicle.
The fact that smoking is prohibited on railway platforms is a Network Rail decision enforced by a bylaw. A company decision.
Open air smoking is not prohibited by an Act of Parliament and although we all accept that smoking on a train platform is anti social, it is no more "totally illegal" than smoking in a Park, where signs tell you it is prohibited.
No criminal record would ensue, the fine is Network Rail's levy and calling the police is a ridiculous waste of time.
Just because you disagree with our filthy addiction, your unpleasant comment about "e-things" shows a lack of sympathy to people, who are surely trying to kick the habit and should be encouraged.
Some of us smoke and are trying to stop. Some of us stuff ourselves with cream horns. Some of us keep vodka in the bread maker. Some eat meat.
I read no more than two chancers having a puff and the guards had better things to do.
Get a grip.

I've seen a lad smoking on platform 3 well out of the way by the wall towards the end of the platform, underneath where the car waiting area is above. No-one seemed to mind.
In Germany, and other civilised EU countries, they have a designated outdoor smoking area on platforms and even booths past security in airports.
I suggest you have a cigarette to relax with, riding around on that high horse all day will give you a heart attack
