Not the Dry slope near eastbourne!!!!
There is an indoor place with real made snow near milton Keynes, they also do lessons.
But the place near Eastbourne is just skiing on a wet carpet!

Scotland is great for skiing, up in aviemore. They cater for all levels of sking so if your a natural then there'[s plenty of advanced slopes to hit. My favourite is the white lady or the M1. Also Courchevel (France) is great for all levels of skiers, i love it when there's a good snow fall and you can ski across the valleys. Also if you go to aviemore second week in January you get to experience the sledge teams racing aswell as great skiing. Where ever you go have a great time.

Sestriere in Italy, fly to Turin or Cuneo to get there. It's high up, always has sun therefore and you can walk onto the nursery slopes rather than have to take cable cars or drive to the slopes. It's on the French border so if you get good enough, you can get a pass to ski round on circuits to France and back

Cheers for that! Do you think its better to learn whilst there, or have some lessons before?

I came to NZ for the skifields, albeit I'm a boarder. Never been on skis in my life.
Take your lessons while you're there, they're a waste of time on dry slopes. If your 1st week is anything like mine was, you will strain so many muscles and be so bruised you'll be bearly able to get out of bed by Wednesday. But persevere and don't lose your cool, those aches will never return after your 1st week - I promise.

I'd never ski'd before I came to NZ. Best advice I can give is have a couple of wines and just go right to the top. Worked for me! 20 years later, I still have to have a couple beforehand, I ski so much better! You don't need to take lessons that way either! So much better than a dry run.

Sorry Eddie I thought you wanted to try it over here!!!!
Tignes, Le Lac is a great place to learn, ...can also highly rate Courchevel, and Serre Chevalier for learning.
Best to attempt it here before going just so you get a feel for it, but the french schools are VERY good once your there.

Plenty of good advice. I'll try to keep my suggestion short but sweet. The two most important things in my mind are foot comfort and proper clothing... you will be miserable if you are cold, wet and your feet are cramped and blistered. The best thing for you to do is to take ski classes. You probably will acquire a beginner package, which includes rental and lessons. However, if you are getting private lessons, I recommend renting your gear the day before on an offsite shop. The gear tends to be in better shape, the prices are cheaper, and you aren't in a rush in the morning to get on the slopes.
