Hello
I'm thinking of moving to Lewes from London. I'm moving on my own which is a slightly scary prospect! I don't know anyone in Lewes but have a load of friends in Brighton and Hove which I find a bit too like London. Anyone done a similar move? How is it meeting new people in lovely Lewes?

Lewes is full of friendly people and if you get involved in the community you'll make friends quickly. The real Lewes isn't all Bills and antique shops and expensive farmers markets though so don't be disappointed if that's what you expect. And the first rule of moving to Lewes from London is not to tell anyone you've moved from London. DFLs get a hard time from some quarters.

I believe the first rule of moving to Lewes is don't try to change it but get involved in its many communities.

Thanks Gerty, good to know...I've heard it's a very friendly place. More community is certainly what I'm looking for.

The fact that you have asked the question means you will be fine.
Most people, myself included; chose Lewes because a house was available close to the station. It took me 10yrs before I realised Lewes was interesting, and not just a place to come home to.
You will be fine - move to Lewes. Your B&H friends will move to Lewes as soon anyway.

Lewes probably has more DFB&Hs than DFLs. I suspect that if you like B&H you won't like Lewes and vice-versa. Not great for Lewes that there are plans being developed for a new mayor-led B&H to incorporate Lewes.

As Brighton is west of Lewes then they are Along from B&H's
