A lot of Conservatives get very upset about any loss of sovereignty within the European Union, among our democratic neighbours.
Yet Gideon Osborne is quite happy to bend over backwards and offer the Chinese complete secrecy and autonomy in designing, building and owning parts of our energy infrastructure. Parts that could be turned into weapons of mass destruction quite easily.
A lack of perspective?

Good point Offroad. We all know the reason - China has money to spend, Britain is broke. Why is this so? One reason is that the Chinese have worked hard and produced things that people and nations need. The British used to do that but now many of us think we can just sit back, know our rights and collect our entitlements. Or our productivity is so low and overheads so high that we can produce very little at a competitive price.

We are very good at paying people to do nothing. The Chinese haven't felt the need to do that so far. They must be very stupid and inferior with a backward culture I would think.

I think you're being a bit harsh on an entire nation, just because they don't have a royal family.

or High speed steel - China can make a drill that LOOKS like HSS but it melts - most of their stuff is rubbish at best and lethal at worst. Prove me wrong !

They make iPhones in China. Sure they're technically inferior to most other smart phones but that's a design issue, not a manufacturing one. Sure China make a ton of cheap tat but that's because companies over here ask them to. Ask them to make something to a high spec and they will and it'll still cost you peanuts as they only pay their workers £1 a day and don't care how much pollution their factories pump out.

I have spent all my life in UK manufacturing. The UK is around the 7th largest manufacturing country in the world.
My concern that inward investment is all very well, but it is internal investment that will bring around long term success and sustainability. However manufacturing and engineering is still regarded as 'trade' by many and those companies in those sectors are not understood to be the route to long term prosperity. That is why 60% of UK manufacturing companies are not UK owned. The UK is actually very good at engineering and manufacturing.
