The roads last winter in the main were 'not needed to be gritted' due to the lack of inclement weather, pot holes abound throughout Sussex and now the verge hay making season is upon us. So it's save, save and save again !
Rumour has it that we are all due a refund of Council Tax as basic services seem to be just a waste of time and money to those we pay to organise services. I believe that the authorities concerned thought that this year's Council Tax increase was just for fun and just in case we have snow this Summer.
There is a hay fever epidemic in Ringmer, children have been getting lost in the long grass on the way to school and unless you drive a tall vehicle it is impossible to join the main road from some side turnings.
Health hazards, bush fires and accidents just waiting to happen.............

It's all about politics. As we don't have a conservative council, they deliberately don't toe the party line, but make us suffer as much as they can. Wanting us to blame the government for the cuts. So they cut everything regardless, whereas, if they really wanted to impress us to elect them again, they would ensure that we knew they were the best. Whereas they're not. And as council tax income in this area must be a hearty sum, due to the property bands, they really could and should do better. They have cut the grass in our area and the road is now covered in cut long grass, the next thing is, the drains will be blocked and overflowing.

What do you mean, Victoria Secret? The County Council is responsible for roadside grass cutting and the Conservatives are by far the largest party represented on the Council. They certainly have to carry the blame for the state of the verges.

You can't blame Conservatives just because they sit on most council seats and Gabe Osborne slashed central govt. funding.
As VS says, this is all the fault of Marxist fifth columnists that have infiltrated the council, and deliberately sacked all the employees to make Conservatives look bad. They've also outvoted the majority Conservative element and insisted rates increases are allowed to be applied to the higher bands too, which we all know is just plainly wrong. Those that live in bigger houses, with longer frontages and longer verges, should be paying much less than penny pinching low achievers who live in overcrowded blocks of flats.
All the Tories ever wanted was to divert all our taxes towards bailing out the poor Banking industry billionaires who lost our shirts in the honest pursuit of their private greed.
When we Brexit, we'll be allowed to make it illegal to blame things on the Tories.

Councils are being squeezed by central government beyond belief. If you think it's bad now, wait another 5 years.
When the government cuts funding to councils, they have to budget appropriately. Unfortunately, grass verge cutting is way down the list of priorities as essential services need to be maintained.
Whatever your political persuasion, that's exactly how it is. Of course, you could have verges like bowling greens but your rubbish and recycling would only be collected once a month.....you choose.

Meanwhile the Police and Fire percentage of council tax bills goes up every year just to maintain their pensions.
