Renting a home in Kingston or Rodmel

Hello there,
I wondered if anyone might be able to help. Myself and my partne and our 2 small boys plan to move to either Kingston or Rodmell next year. We are selling our London home first and will then wait for the right place to come up. In the meantime our older boy will be starting primary school in Sept 2014 and if we do not have an abode by then we'll need to rent somewhere locally. I can't see any properties to rent in either Kingston or Rodmell. We would need a family sized home. Do rentable properties in these villages even exist? If so how could I find them? Thank you in advance for your kind help,

You don't want to live there. They have webbed feet and eat their babies.

This isn't a free information shop for people who want to move from London and want special help finding the right house, the right school etc etc. Utterly tiresome.

Um- have you heard of right move and estate agents ? It works the same way down here as it does in the big city !!! Kingston and Rodmell are tiny villages, so the chances of big family homes coming up to rent when you want/need is slight. The only way to avoid the agents is to know people locally and make a private arrangement.
If I was you I would rent a house in Lewes before you sell your London home. Make sure the area is right for you before committing to buying here. Sales can take an awful long time and houses tend to linger on the local market - people are not in such a rush as London buyers/sellers. I've seen properties on for over a year - I think those selling do not necessarily have to move, so are in no rush and wait for the price they want.
So rent your place in London and rent a place down here before committing. I know at least two families who sold up in London first and found they couldn't get the type of house they wanted - meanwhile losing equity as the market moved higher and higher.

Lewes will drop 10% next year so no one in their right mind will sell.

Hi Lara, welcome to the area. I hope you find somewhere nice to rent and you and your family are very happy in Sussex.

See you've already got a taste of what the locals are like.
Thank goodness for Don't mind the natives.
When you do move down if you're able to wave a Guardian and fake working class credentials with an empathy for anything as long as it isn't English you'll fit in perfectly with the Lewes Toynbee set.
PS Lots of decent property to rent including one in the road where I live and another round the corner - both family sized detached but they don't come cheap.

Plenty of places to rent in Landport, Malling, Nevill. Good schools near by. I'm sure you'd be most welcome there while you look for your country pad.

Eeeerrr this is a free information shop, there is a wealth on knowledge on this forum and it is free !
Yes my recommendation would be to rent first in lewes, then you can see once settled where would be the best place for you.
Also you will be much more likely to find somewhere to rent in lewes as there are more properties.
Just keep up to date with rightmove and make sure you call estate agents also.
We did not move from London but know many people who did who love it here, any negative responses you receive on this forum , you are unlikely to ever receive in person, it is a wonderful welcoming place if you also out the effort in!
Good luck!!
